I changed my oil!

The only problem with cheap oil is that it's recycled oil.

I used to pay about £15 for a gallon of oil for my diesel Peugeot 405. I changed it every year (12 to 20,000 miles). Because the oil was better quality, it still showed good viscosity and all the dirt was still suspended. The oil wasn't lumpy when I changed it. Cheaper oil does not last as long before it viscosity is broken down.
When I sold the car with 135,000 on the clock, I got no more or no less for it than if I'd changed the oil daily.
Some garages suck the old oil out rather than remove the plug. I prefer to have the oil drained to ensure it's all removed. Although I now pay for the car to be serviced, I rarely changed the washer and never changed the plug itself.
Also, if the oil looked good when I drained it, I'd keep the new filter for next time.

Hi all!
Well the next development is that I have changed my pads and discs, at a cost of £45 (which included brake cleaner), instead of the £125 that the garage wanted.
Admittedly it did take me and a friend 5 hours, but we enjoyed it and felt a real sense of achievement afterwards.
And a knowledgeable person kept an eye on us.
Best of all - the brakes still work0 -
Just for info, the service interval/oil change on my diesel Renault Master vans is 24000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first.

I get my local garage to give my car an oil and filter change, including a flush, twice a yr. I get a summer oil change done, and a winter oil change, and to be honest, I've never suffered a breakdown yet. So, I think it's worth the money.
I would never attempt to change the oil myself, but big thumbs up to those of you who do.0 -
