Many jobs have a standard time charge. If it takes longer than they cover the difference so it all works out :)

now what job are we talking about??

you are pretty sure but not 100%

some garages have differing views on how long a job takes and if you could do it yourself why didnt you??

I think you might be trying to wind us up

Swap a cat for a decat pipe.

I needed it done for an MOT which i've only just discovered would've run out yesterday - I didnt have the tools or time to do it.

Just because you dont know the entire story, you jump to the conclusion that i'm on the wind up.

What God forsaken remote benefit would I have of making this up? That's a theoretical question btw, i'm not actually interested in any reply you might have.

No garage worth their salt will give an Ironclad 100% guarantee that the job would take 1 hour and not a minute more, it just doesn't work that way.

    Yes you're right.

I've sorted this matter out now, - case closed.

Thanks for most of your replies

So you had the tools 4 days ago to put the cat back on for the MOT, but have lost them now you want to swap them back?

Here's an idea. Why not leave the cat on and have a road legal car all year round? Would save you money getting it swapped back and fore every year ;)
And maybe buy yourself a calendar too ;)

Sorry, I should've given every single detail at the beginning of the post. I didn't think it would be relevant or of interest.

Four days ago I got half way through the job before discovering that the one spanner I needed to remove the very last bolt (which attaches the temperature monitor) was missing, - my uncle recently borrowed my tools and obviously didnt put it back in the tool box!

I have had no time since to get this done, - hence why I used a company who I knew would pick up my car & return it.

I spoke to the guy on the phone, we had a long conversation, he claims that he had to use some sort of engine solution stuff which would clean the injectors & what not to bring down the emissions to get it through the test, - he also claims that he had to use some thread cleaner on the bolts of the cat. He said he added the extra cost to the labour charges instead of detailing properly - as he was in a hurry.

He then went on to offer my £20 off as a good will gesture as I wasn't happy.

Through conversation, a friend has not put me in touch with a friendly MOT station who I will use next year, - so no need to replace the cat at all

Far harder now for dodgy MOT centres to get away with it now that VOSA have their computers installed at all MOT garages. My mates one was well reknowned for dodgy MOT's for all and sundry but now they cannot even slip one out since VOSA installed their equipment

Maybe not, Omen666, but until VOSA have a permanent inspector at every MOT station then there's still nothing to stop the tester shoving the emissions probe up a different exhaust when it comes to the emissions test. Job done, test passed.
