Garage over-charged me.

Hoping for some advice.

I have just had some work on my car, - i'm pretty sure that this work would take about an hour.

They have charged me for 2 hours labour.

I am yet to pay, they have returned the car and I have to ring them up to pay.

I know exactly what was involved, in fact, if I had the right tools, I could have done this myself so I know exactly what is involved.

Before I make the call, I was just looking for advice of what exactly to say the garage?

you dont know if they had trouble removing parts, were bolts siezed and had to be tapped out? there may be a valid explaination.

5 of the bolts they needed to remove were removed only 4 days ago. 1 of the bolts they had to remove was only removed 1 year ago, so i'm pretty sure they wouldn't have had trouble with this.

    Why not ask them?

You say that they have returned the car. Do you mean that they collected it before and delivered it after the work was done?

I will ask them when I ring. I want to be prepared for the conversation beforehand.

    Dave - yes that's correct.

What about other garages? What if I got written quotations from other garages stating that it would only take ONE hour, and argued that what they have charged me is unreasonable under the Supply of Goods & Services Act 1982?

Bear in mind most garages will charge by the full hour, so if it took 1hr 5mins then they will charge you 2 full hours. I don't think you have much of case here particularly as you have yet to hear what the garage has to say.

No garage worth their salt will give an Ironclad 100% guarantee that the job would take 1 hour and not a minute more, it just doesn't work that way.

now what job are we talking about??

you are pretty sure but not 100%

some garages have differing views on how long a job takes and if you could do it yourself why didnt you??

I think you might be trying to wind us up
