Maybe one solution is to do a standing order to pay something into a savings account every month for the future, then both of you withdraw a set amount of cash every week for personal spending. When it's gone, it's gone till next week. The remaining money in the joint account goes on household bills. That way you are both happy? One life - your life - live it!0

Thats what I like to see - a good old-fashioned chat about things!
I am really glad that you two are making headway with it and there is some understanding now.0 -
£10 a month is all it takes to start saving, get yourselves a savings account (or seperate ones if it'll help) and set up a standing order for £10 a month. Once the money starts to mount up you'll both come to realise how good it feels to have a bit of 'bunse' behind you, and may even be able to go on holiday, buy a new car etc
but right now that £10 a month needs to got to pay for fixing the car.
How much work is it to fix, do you know what's wrong with it?0 -

Could your wife be depressed and sees spending as her way to dealing with things. It is far more common than you might realise but is frustrating for partners/family so does not get dealt with properly, telling someone to stop spending money is not dealing with problems that someone night have.
Might not be the case so I hope you did not mind me posting but it could be.
I think this has become a very common problem with debt issuses. For the past 2-3 years ive had problems with debt building up and the more depressed i got the more i spent to make myself happy. I ended up with a DMP so i had more money than ever in the past few years and for the first couple of months i did spend it all every last penny because i could, maybe thats why she has been like this and soon it may cool down and you can start saving.
Good luck0
