Broadband - no contract

Hi all,

I cancelled my AOL broadband last month as I had BB on another line for work and it was end of 12 month contract.
I have remained on a £3 a month deal which would allow me to "piggyback" my desktop to my work modem. I didn't get round to doing that and have lost the email explaining the settings!

I am changing jobs now and will lose mt work BB - will be provided with a dial up work connection - but only for intranet and work mail - no surfing.

So, I need new BB - I have modem from AOL deal.
Whats the best deal with no tie in or maybe 3 months.
I'm kind of keen on the phone/BB deals around but don't want high set up costs.

Someone had mentioned getting a code or something about your existing BB line which would make it easier to change.

Thanks in advance
gone

Yeah the code you are asking about is a kind of 'transfer' code - can't remember the name - but I believe you have to ask for it before you cancel, or it's tough luck.

All it means is you have to wait for the broadband to be set up again.

I am on Virgin cos there is no contract as such - although they reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee.

The best phone / BB package seems to be Talk Talk but it's an 18 month contract - in fact I have come on MSE today to see the articles about it ...

Good luck anyway, just thought I'd add my thoughts !

You're after a mac code from AOL.

If AOL have terminated their BB contract you may have a problem getting the mac code as they may be in the process of disabling DSL on your line which would mean a fresh installation (and the cost!) for your new provider. If BB is still active and AOL issue a mac code then you'll be fine.

There's lots of providers to choose from. If you're moving then you won't have the high setup fees for line activation, migration may be free but you could spend up to £20 for a short contract term.

I'm with discountdsl.co.uk, there's links on the home page to a few other price review sites that may help.
