Don't you just love how some people make a headline out to be something other than what it is.
London rents are not to be capped at £1,250 as the OP refers, but the amount an MP would be able to claim against rent may be capped.
Some people love to clutch at straws and try to twist into something they think will benefit them:wall:

I've no problem with making MPs wealthy if they make the country wealthier. I do have a problem with detached MPs getting considerable reward regardless of how much they put us 'in hock'.
Perhaps the estates of late MPs could be taxed in some way that is proportionate to the fiscal state of the country comparing when they arrived in and departed from Parliament.
There are so few MPs that worrying about what they earn is the least of the coutry's concerns. I'd pay them a few million quid each a year and let them pay expenses etc from that. At least that way they have no particular incentive to be corrupt.0 -

Not really, it's demoralising really.
It's a good job I know a few professionals who will keep standards higher:wall:

A certain science fiction author suggested that at the start of office, every single asset an MP owns should be confiscated. At the end of office, the MP should get a percentage of any government surplus, which - if they manage things properly - could amount to tens of millions of pounds. If they don't manage things properly, they leave office with nowt.
Any income they earn during their term of office, would of course be confiscated by the state.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
