I have DELL LATITUDE D600 laptop. Now I dont know why whenever I switch it on it asks for password and on screen I can see following message:
"This computer system has FCKSC1J - 595B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.
Please type in the primary or administrator password and press enter."
I am not a techie person . Could you please help me to sort out this problem.
Thanks in advance.

I once powered up a machine at work that asked for a password. I didn't know it needed one and let out an expletive. The wag beside me typed the word in and it worked. It turned out you could actually type anything in and it would let you through.
Have you tried typing anything into it?
If you do a search for that code or password authentication system on the Dell site, it just brings up the laptop at the top of the search. You might need to contact Dell and ask them what to do.0 -
What OS is the laptop running??
if it's not XP Pro then try booting into safe mode (repeatedly tap F8 at start up) and changing the password in the accounts in control panel.
failing that, a bit of googling (I'd link you to the site, but not sure I'm allowed to on here.....) should find you a download of an iso to make a boot disc that will reset the password for you"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -

Why don't you send the link by PM? I tried googling for him but couldn't fine anything of any use.0 -
Does the computer boot in to XP? If not its a bios password that has to be removed by clearing the bios!
Thanks Tom :-)0 -

does it not even POST??"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
if it is a bios password, undo the screws labelled "K" on the bottom of the laptop, remove the keyboard, then remove the bios battery (a watch battery), for a couple of seconds, then put it back together, and the password prompt will be gone.
If it is a hard drive/encryption password, workarounds are much tricker. Where did this laptop come from, back of a lorry?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Can't see that working either. The password is stored on a ROM chip0 -
There is sometimes a jumper that can be set to clear the BIOS whcih will clear the password (have only ever seen this on desktops though).
