EON....wont budge with direct debit!£1200 a year minimum
Options
Newbie here..so hope this is okay!
Last year I was in arrears with EON, I paid them £145 for 12 months, I am now £50 in credit. They have put the direct debit down to £110, after another phonecall they said go paperless and it would be £100
okay so £1200 a year for E7 on a 2 bedroom flat. I know E7 is much pricier than central heating, on central heating it was £240 for a year!
As a result I have now switched off the storage heaters, cooker, put away small appliances etc. Been reading how to reduce electricity etc
Am wondering if its worth putting another letter to them? I emailed them about the situation, they rang to say they cant go any lower until the next meter reading. Then proceeded to ask me if I worked full time... err..yep.. and its still a lot of money!!
In complete contrast my water is £9 a month- I shower at the gym twice a day, rarely cook..and work 8-6pm weekdays...useage..should be low!
Any advice for me guys, I am chuffed at having it £35 cheaper a month..but really..this isnt going to make a massive difference in the grand scheme of things!!
Thanks in advance guys!
Rebekah

Do you know what your annual usage is?0

The problem with E7 is that all your other electricity is considerably more expensive.
I expect the question about working full time was more about your pattern of use i.e. out at work all day.
£1,200 pa for an all electric E7 house is not excessive. If it does turn out to be too high after a couple of meter readings, they can then reduce the payments.
Surely better that way than build up another debit balance.0 -
Hi Rebekah :hello:
Cardew is right, really E.ON would need to see the reduction in your usage before lowering the Direct Debit.
Especially as we are coming in to the winter months.
As you say you have turned off the heaters and will be avoiding some appliances, this should show in your usage.
Contact E.ON next month with an up to date reading to show the reduction.

aren't EDF & BG much cheaper for E7 ??
if you don't owe money you can't afford to clear jump on to a comparison site and see how much cheaper it would be with a different supplier0 -
You said you have turned off the storage heaters? If that is a permanent step then being on Economy 7 is now pointless, as you won't get the much off peak benefit, and will pay more for peak rate. So you would need to change your meter/tariff accordingly. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Good point, E.ON can just change the tariff, simple to do. But you will still need to supply both meter readings.
They can also tell you how the usage has reduced on the night rate, and how much a one rate tariff will save.
Are you going to have any heating at all?

Why get one of there on-line direct debit. You can submit your bills on-line that way you'll only pay what you use.0

I do have paperless online Direct debit, £100 is as low as they can go with current readings
Yes I will be keeping them off as much as possible now. No heat. One light bulb when I am at home, shower at gym and cooker is now unplugged at the mains.
I am at work 8-6 then gym in evenings everyweekday, my need for evening heat is minimal!(although it is getting very cold!)
As I said its rented, I would never move anywhere with E7 again, its hopless!

But renting does not prevent you from switching tariffs/suppliers? See the EON rep's post.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
