1. Coming home with bags of food and seeing the look of wonderment on my partners face when I told him it only cost £45.
2. Searching through my freezer for an ice lolly, I found I had two bags of crumble mix already made-perfect for making a scrummy crumble for pudding as its getting chilly here.
3. Putting together presents for children out of bits and pieces, yet knowing they'll adore them because they are personal.
4. Buying stuff to make a cake for my Mum as its her birthday on Tuesday (plus her present hasn't arrive-postal strike).
5. Knowing I'm going to have a fantastic dinner of steak, potatoes and veggies and that it only cost pennies (reduced section rump steak-yum!)Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Good evening all & I hope any 'ghostly' visitors are friendly ones
Had a lovely day today so it won't be hard to find 5 pleasures
1. DS1 & DS3 (The other 2 are out for the evening) have decorated the dogs faces with fake bloodI checked and its non toxic. They look pretty scary though (well as scary as a Labrador & a Beagle can do
) as the Labrador is golden and the Beagle has lots of white on his face! I laugh every time I look at them
2. DH, also entering into the Haloween spirit has painted his face white, put red rings around his eyes and fake blood all over. He's answering the door to the littlies with a bowl of treats. It's going down very well so far.
3. Went bowling with DS3 and my Mum this afternoon. Mum doesn't bowl as it brings her angina on but we had a good chat & laughed whilst we were there. It was a treat for DS3 as he's been ill for most of the half term with a chest infection bless him.
4. Such a lovely sunny afternoon despite the grey start this morning.
5. Looking at the trees behind the house going such beautiful autumn colours this morning. Two Rowan trees still have all their lush green leaves they're always the last to drop and the last to come back in the spring I've noticed.
I hope that everyone is having a good weekend.

1. Clearing things off the kitchen sofa. The covers are filthy but I can sit down and there's such a sense of space.
2. Letting our lovely local littlies help themselves from my 'cauldron' this evening, marvelling at the trouble people had taken with costumes and appreciating the parents who made sure that their children said 'thank you'.
3. Having a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered - from my (former) boss and her team.
4. My sons hugging me, overwhelmed at how creative I was with drawing jack-o-lantern faces on to tangerines (thanks to a MSE tip).
5. Giving my boys bedtime hugs in bed for the first time in weeks. (I'm looking forward to more of those now that I can put the stresses of my job behind me.)

Busy day today!
1) Negotiating trains and replacement buses from Ludlow to the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. With 2 small boys in tow!
2) Getting half price C.A.T tickets because we had gone by train!
3) Playing with all the hands on thingies and taking lots of photos in the lovely sunshine.
4) "Trick and treating" my mum and dad who had carved a pumpkin out and got marshmallows in ready for my sons. (We all live miles from anywhere so no one ever comes round on Hallowe'en!)
5) Watching my mum play the piano accordian accompanied by my brother on the trumpet. They went to a party last night where everyone was supposed to do a song, if they could. Also watching my dad play the tin whistle with them. He took this up (the only instrument he has ever tried!!!) at 64 a few months ago. Watching my sons' faces when they realised Grandad was playing a tune too! (He did chicken out of playing in front of his friends at the party, mind you).
Happy Hallowe'en to all!

Good morning all  - sitting here today listening to the rain bouncing down outside
.
Broomstick - well done to your sons and their coach on making their training sessions go so well and well done you on resisting the bargains in the book shop.
Patchwork - thanks for that - I've sent Reverbe a pm - hope she's back on here soon. I've got visions of your three allotment old-timers struggling with a door 'a la Last of the Summer Wine' now :rotfl: - but how rotten of that 4x4 driver. Was he also an allotment holder? If so I think I'd be making a complaint about him .
bunny too - I can smell that lamb roasting all the way over here . Wtg mse on you finding a taxi for your son :T.
samanthaneww2d - hope you all enjoyed your 'alternative hallowe'en' celebrations. We used to hold those at a church I was part of.
Rummer - love your forward planning for an extra 10mins in bed each morning :rotfl:.
SunnyGirl - awww what a shame - we could have had our very own mini-meet-up. Maybe I can get it re-arranged for a future date though
. lol at your OH and the dogs :rotfl:.
Louba - well done to your OH on fetching brekkie in bed - shutting my eyes discreetly at your No.3.
Kitchenbunny - well done you on spreading the mse Word and also on winning the fancy dress prize.
Zippychick - My cat was Tiggy-tiger, he was nearly 14 and we'd had him from about 5/6 weeks. I'm sure he was really too young to have left his mother but conditions at his home were disgusting and my OH couldn't resist bringing him out of there. He had cancer in his kidneys - it was very advanced - and we'd tried to keep his quality of life going for about six months before taking the decision. I held him while it happened and I was the last person he saw. :rotfl: at your kitty and the primark bag - T-t loved cardboard boxes.
Toonie - wtg on your bargain shopping trip- but you don't have to let on to your OH hun - what they don't know doesn't hurt them
.
scotrae - sounds like you've had a great weight lifted from you along with your redundancy- enjoy your 'newly found work-freedom'
.
ACEY - wtg you on eventually getting to the CAT and :T to your family on your musical evening together.
Kitchenbunny - what a lovely evening and crispy jackets mmmmm .
bunny too - well done you on helping your friend out - lovely to 'borrow' a tail-wagger.
Mine for yesterday:
1. Managed spend a couple of hours with DD and got her out to do some shopping.
2. Playing with dgs1 and dgd2 before they went off for the day with their daddy.
3. Just managed to get back home before the first of the 'Trick or Treaters' arrived. First lot were great - 6 littlies with their Nan and very well behaved. Next lot were 4 chancers who were passing at the time and turned out to be rather cheekier - pushing and shoving each other - hmmm. Soon ran out of treats.
4. Chilli Turkey Mince with Pasta and garlic bread from the freezer - so very quick evening meal.
5. Still eating evening meal when DS2 arrived with dgs2&3 for the night. Quick dash to get the travel cot put up 'to confine dgs3 to barracks' while we finished eating .
6. Managed to get dgs3 to sleep and then carved a Pumpkin Jack O'Lantern with dgs2 (my very first attempt) - now wondering if I can use the flesh for cooking with!
7. dgs2 went to bed while I sat and watched Hallowe'en on TV - but got fed up and decided to watch Victoria Wood instead.
8. dgs3 only sitrred about four times during the night and was quite easily silenced with 'shhhh - back-a-bo-bo's - dodo'.
9. Now both washed, dressed and a-waiting the arrival of DS2 so I can get back out again to DD's (hoping that he'll give me a lift there, as it's still bouncing down).
That's me done for now folkies - hope the rest of you have better weather than we're experiencing here today. love Ollie xxx0 -
Morning everyone. Stepped away from the puter for a few days but still feel the need to keep counting my pleasures.
1. Spending a whole day in a steamy kitchen with the girls making halloween baking and paper cutout decorations.
2. Lunch of HM pumpkin soup.
3. Getting the girls looking fabulous with their recycled, charity shop costumes and painting their (and my) faces.
4. Visiting neighbours who were so welcoming and generous and genuinely delighted to see the girls.
5. Welcoming people into our home and appreciating all the effort they had made.
Take care all. xxx0 -
