Hi Ollie. Yes the staff are encouraging her downstairs they use all sorts of cunning ploys :rotfl: It doesn't help that MIL is a very private person who having ran her own pub for 40 years with late FIL didn't really have a big group of friends. We'll get there with her though. DH is taking her extra recliner chair up to go in the lounge today so she'll have her own seat
Loving the idea of the Asda style birthday cake I will definitely be 'pinching' that one from you
this is the one that I've tried to copy - but mine is more substantial. Using a 4-4-4-2 victoria cake mix - I put it into a square cake tin as I don't have any of those foil trays. Like to bet there's only about half that amount in each of those small trays!0 -
Hi to all, my 5 os pleasures today
1 dd coming home for day
2 had a lovely lunch & oh did washing up
3 washing basket empty (but not ironing basket, never mind)

Hi all
A bit of a challenging day re. pleasures today as DH not well - yesterday I teased him about Man Flu but in fact he has had quite a bad night and today he has a temperature and sweated a lot (so much that he has to lie on a towel and I had to change the sheets, poor dear). Feeling regretful now for having teased him.
Anyway, some good things have happened so here is my list for today:
1 - A friend who I hadn't seen for a long time called me and asked me to go out with her.
2 - Said friend is recovering from breast cancer and she looks and feels very well now, after all the ordeals she has gone through in the last couple of years.
3 - We went to the Farmers Market and I bought a mixed bag of organic apples and pears.
4 - Then we went to the library and I got two books out (found that the library in Eltham is open on Sunday because it is attached to the swimming pool - great discovery!).
5 - After library we had a cup of tea together and a bun (that I had bought in Lidl before).
6 - No need to cook because dinner is already ready. It is the barley and lentil stew that I made yesterday but nobody ate because the kids were out and all DH wanted was an egg with a few oven chips and peas.
Here, not the most exciting of days but I am glad that I shall stay home this evening to look after him, even if I am missing the Azerbaijan concert. There will be other opportunities to go out.
Have a great evening everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Good Evening!
I have had another lovely and productive day!
1. The party went very well and my DD got loads of lovely gifts
2. Everyone enjoyed my baking (or at least said they did!)
3. I got another bottle of wine to add to the xmas stash
4. Now sitting in a clean and tidy house, it is amazing what you can do when panicked
5. Sitting in a living room filled with lovely cards
6. Watching ice-age 2 on the TV
7. Finishing off the last few nibbles from the party
8. Relaxing in the warm comfy house glad I do not need to go out in the rain
9. Later I am going to watch Meet the Robinsons
10. First wknd in months I have nothing for work to do!
Long may this joyful day last!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hi everyone & i hope that you are all having good Sundays? It's so dark here now  but I do love having the house warm & cosy with lovely cooking smells
We've had a good, productive & busy day which makes a change from some Sundays when we literally veg out for the day
Ollie That cake looks like it'd be luck to have a 2 2 2 1 mixture in it! I'm going to use your idea for MIL, my Dad, SIL & my best friend who all have birthdays between now & the 11th December - I'll be a busy little baker by the looks of it
Caterina Hope that your DH feels better soon. I wouldn't feel too bad as it's hard with both children & husbands sometimes to tell if it's flu or tiredness or 'lambing it on' as my Nana used to sayNot a phrase I've ever heard anyone else use but everyone who hears it from us loves it and uses it regularly!
My five for today are:
1. Lovely smell of gammon roast dinner in the kitchen right now.
2. Seeing MIL and her asking me to get her some Thornton's Special Toffee tomorrow - she is a diabetic with a blood count between 3 and 33  It made us smile and we decided that Thornton's may have to be shut or have ran out :rotfl: Part of me does think to heck with it to be honest but it makes the nursing staff's jobs so much more difficult if they don't know what they're dealing with.
3. My SIL ringing to thamk me for 'holding the fort' while she's been away for the weekend with her DH. They needed the break together so it was a pleasure to do so.
4. Anticipated pleasure of an evening curled up with my cross stitch and the family while we watch tv.
5. My Mum took 3 loads of washing to dry in her tumble drier so I didn't have it all to get off maidens & put away this morning :Tto anyone who wants one & I hope that everyone has a pleasant evening xxx

Hi all, here's mine for the last few days (trying to keep positive whilst getting bored of daytime tv )
Fri:
1. Friends popping in unexpectedly for a cuppa and bringing flowers.
2. Said friends offering to give me a lift to the next dr appointment (it's a long way back up the hill to home from the bus stop).
3. Feeling well enough to make squash soup - been staring at the squash and wanting to eat them since I got out of hospital.
4. Unexpected delivery of flowers and chocolates from hubby (he was at work)
5. Flowers from hubby came in a vase (I've only got two vases and they were both in use!).
6. Lovely hand drawn get well card from my niece.
Sat:
1. The sun shining for a while
2. Phone call from another friend
3. Eating leibkuchen/pfeffernusse
4. Managing to change the bedding - though that and cooking dinner wore me out and I had to have a nap before xfactor
Sun:
1. Popping over to see mum and her cats.
2. Feeling brighter after my sleep
3. Managing to juggle the freezer to make enough room to fit in the mince and chicken.
4. Sleepless in Seattle on tv.
5. Having a lovely hubby who's telling me off for doing to muchworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Nice weekend for me -
1. Totally mealplanned for this week
2. Candle making supplies bought for HM Xmas Candle pressies
3. HM Broccoli & Stilton soup made for work lunches
4. Tidy-ish house and two bunches of reduced flowes in vases (75p)

Hi All
Mine for today are:
1 Finishing my scarf - put the tassles on it this morning, just need some really cold weather to wear it out now!!!
2 Putting a picture of my scarf on facebook and getting nice comments
3 John and Edward just being voted off x factor
4 Signed up for a little free on line course in tarot cards now that I have no knitting to keep me busy in the evening - always been interested in tarot and now i can learn more for free!!
5 Spending all afternoon looking at sweets recipes, i will definatly have to start making some of them. I am so pleased I saved the dowue egberts coffee jars so will now fill them with home made sweeties.0 -
Thanks Ollie and Haribo - today, although it ended up being a bit different than planned, has been a lot more manageable!
My five pleasures for Sunday:
1. DS2 coming in to my room after midnight to tell me he couldn't sleep so he cuddled up and I spent a while telling him about my gran/his great-gran (whom he never met) and what her house was like and sharing memories of when I was little. He went back to his own room and fell asleep straight away.
2. A very early start taking him to a sports competition - the drive was through countryside that I love.
3. We drove back early afternoon via our old house for him to play in the street with his friends while I popped to the nearest garden centre, had a wander around, and although I was tempted by some really lovely Italian soap, spent no money other than treating myself to a cuppa in the cafe - much enjoyed time alone.
4. Curling up in an armchair under a blanket when we got back home and falling fast asleep for a late afternoon nap.
5. Eating up leftovers for supper. In my case that meant the cheese and tomato sarnie I didn't have at lunchtime melted in the oven as an experiment (that tasted very good), one veggie spring roll and some grapes that I rescued from DS2 before he wolfed them - somehow he seems to have eaten most of a bagful today . Silly meal but very unwasteful - proper cooking resumes tomorrow.
Keep warm everyone and big (((hugs))) to those that need them.

Hi all,
Olliebeak - i would say that your mum surpassed herself in making your brother's 21st birthday party memorable! sidenote - sauerkraut is also very popular in Poland and USA... resisting the urge to comment about no accounting for taste...
Caterina - hope your hubby gets better soon and you don't get too worn out being his night nurse.
struggled quite a bit today but will try to think positive:
1) made some vegi breakfast bars with a twist (lacked half the stated dried fruit and !!!!!! is flax seed? so substituted it with others lurking in larder) son taste-tested results and they passed.
2) did one load of washing
3) all piles of clean clothes now hanging up/ folded away until the clean washing breeds again... and i can see the floor in my bedroom :-)
4) won audio book for son's birthday next month on ebay
5) er...um... got out of bed and dressed even though i didn't want to - major achievement for me today.
bcnever play leapfrog with a unicorn...0
