CAROLYN: You are not going to do anything with it, Raffles, and I'll tell you why not: this Birling Day, the whiskey is going to be under constant and vigilant watch ..

    Sorry, Miss :p

    Well Done Mrs LW

    Pleasures for tuesday

up early and walked to the station - the up early is not a pleasure, the walk was OK and i did some work on the train to Reading
No time for breakfast so bought a pain au chocolat from patisserie Valerie
Meting went ok. they seem to think I know what i am doing - fools :rotfl:
train to London then to Euston for train home. thought it took longer to get from Reading to London .....
Met old time friends for drinks and dinner. Was lovely to catch up and yummy beer and food consumed

    Pleasures for yesterday.

Abandoned trying for the 9.07 train for a cup of decent coffee in my house.
Big mistake as got notification that meeting was at 11 and not 2 as I'd thought. Was still on train at 11.30 :o Pleasure is that supervisors were very understanding ("we've all done it. I've even got the wrong day before") and meeting was ok.
Frustrations regarding access at uni (can't get into any office now....) meant I got the hump and just left. Which is probably a pleasure - good walk in the sunshine to Euston
Train to Birmingham and managed to get some work done
Biggest pleasure is that our dinner date for last night cancelled - meaning we could have a night at home and a bbq in the garden in the lovely warm sunshine.

Cleaning this morning, work this PM and CBSO tonight - it's all go at the moment, hence the last pleasure being a cancelled date :rotfl:
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Big wide screen just blitzes &'s putah, dodgy enough anyway, but will try.

Just had enzed cousin msg on phone while outdoors with no.2 tea, headed 'Just rcvd this from France' as pdf. Sadly, it is not, as & thought, joking reference to a long-delayed March p/c finally arrived, but a faire-part d!c!s. Lovely maman of &'s Northern French family has died, aged 80. Somehow, someone sent the news to NZ cousin's address, doubtless used by & when sending sth to them last year.
Lord x's funeral done yday, now looking to cross Channel at suitable moment. How all will continue, with their 'famille d'accueil' care of 4 , plus the 'all Nature' o-s dairy farm run by M-E, solo, in her 50's now....well, there it is.

    Still I set these down.

    1. Sitting out back with early bird chatter, deffo. watching & putting out various brekkie in safe places - far too slowly, sans doute. Hose is on rhubarb and raspberries again, also for birdie splashes'n'bathes in large drip tray.

    2. Good cricket listening before and after yday's duty[albion beat saffers]which also=avoidance of trump clatter and appalling blurt/leak idiocy. Impeach and remove, asap.

    3. Increasing dawdle with Elizabeth Goudge's 'The Scent of Water', because of so much re-reading and thinking.
    http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/673799.The_Scent_of_Water

    3. Mr T's J kindly sorted out &mob and new but unfunctioning phone, yet again. He assures & it's not her, can see apps go bonkers. & had no ems showing since 7 May, yet they clearly existed. Have at long last just used new landline phone for 1st time :-))), to call re: trailer tarp. replacement in town of horse. It will have to be a made-to-measure job. On verra.

    4. Checking in garden room, baits still untouched. Nothing has been in, at any point, which is as good as it is surprising, being down back at farm edge.

    5. &'s fave weather.

    #
vl, you set down your work situ well - and wisely.
    #
Frith - your no.3 will become another 'How on Earth did you put up with me?' family/gran story in years to come. You will all survive, promised with whatever is unembarrassing/suitable hug replacement, d'accord? More loathed français:-)
    #
Will be observing another silence at 1100h today.
    #
p.s. - vjm; 'Big mistake as got notification that meeting was at 11 and not 2 as I'd thought.' - ditto & this week, so we'll call that all square, methinks:-)

    Bedtime

Work , was rather crazy...didn't get everything done as there was so much to do so I'm hoping it will there for me to finish tomorrow ...who knew there was so much to running a newsagency? Not I.

Home and Mr Dog and I sat on sofa in my office and relaxed our eyes for a bit.

DD1 & I did a bit in the garden at veg patches. Garden bin filled, patch number 1 filled with leaves to mulch over winter. Lavender cuttings taken. About 3 years ago I planted 2 rtc scrawny 60cents plants in veg patch and they are now both huge.

I have mentioned my odd next door neighbour before, she came out her back door, which is over the fence from our veg patch but at her top of head height.( she wears one large roller in her fringe which is all I can see , as I too am vertically challenged! Anyway , she came out, DD ducked down into flower bed and left me to do all the talking!

Had very nice left over steak pie for tea .

Email from pension company and offer made...obviously that urgent stamp made all the difference!

More snuggles with my doggy as we watched M'chef.

    Night x
  • 5 Well I will be tossing off later with fresh pancakes, recipe see other posts. Tum shall be rubbed vigorously! Bet nones of yous lot has pancakes coated in cocoa! You just have to try it. It is BoPsie best comfort food. And yes, the pancakes will be tossed in the pan. Undecided at the moment whether to use the big pan or the little pan!

4 Watched the cricket yesterday and advised BoPsie on her bet that she should put all in on the Southerners getting less than 320 runs! Unfortunately she bottled it! No pennies later! As we lost and BoP is slaving at the mill to pay for all the excesses of the last few days in the USA, she has this very morning raided her bank of piggy so we can have beans on toast. Proper foods, not that prefabricated pancake carp that has been mentioned on here!

3 Mill, which has a cart load of cotton bails to deal with, is having a BBQ today. Dog roll it is! Tum will be rubbed, see above! Also my team has built a triumphal paper kite . Like years gone by, rules will be bent so we win. More news on our victory will be published here tomorrow.

2 Night BoP is out with the camera club taking nice photos, more later.

    And now for the

    Small collection.
    1. &, Mark Radcliffe on 6 Music has just sung the praises of the Spooky Men's Chorale extensively and at length. He is someone who knows what he is talking about when it comes to music, so this was a pleasure - many more will be Googling as I type, to discover them too.

    2. Thank you, &, re the pleasure of my having work lined up. Now 'not working' whilst I wait to start feels like a holiday and not like a punishment.

    3. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine. My red Oriental poppy is blazing in the sun and new flowers opening at speed.
Poppies now, as DGS split the plant accidentally last year whilst tidying for me and it now has satellite plants.

    4. The kindness of the lady who helped me as I came out of Mr T's yesterday evening. She stowed shopping in the trike's luggage box for me and then put the crab-fathered trolley away for me.
Then a chat outside the shop with a friend who having retired has found herself being begged to work again in Further Education. A chance to grouse about the changes that took my last job from me with someone who fully and absolutely understands. Family listen but, well.

    5. Your pleasures, thank you. Mhags, re your bargain lavenders, my Oriental poppy was a RTC in Wilko's about 10 years ago. Two were bought and both looked unpromising. One indeed didn't survive - white- but the red one did and every May-June provides such visual pleasure.

Bless you all for your pleasures!

    OS Pleasures recently
Neighbour not only granted me free hand skip hopping but pointed out a glorious Belfast sink (as I long as I didn't ask him to lift it!) Mopped up a lot of useful copper piping too - ferrules for tools & potentially rings once I figure the jewellery side. Plus plastic piping for soaking and storing things. He even wants to hire son as gardener!

The Sunday shop without my usual assistant was much more stressful but at least everyone has a complete tin of mathematical implements.(Again, but bought rtc again.)

Researching dyers herbs preferred conditions & estimated sizes - that sink should be occupied!

"Don't forget the sheet on the line, mother!" "Ah. Er?" "I would but I'm not wearing any clothing." Drat but an unanswerable excuse....

Manchester - amidst the grief & terror, there is a thick stripe of love, protection, reassurance and a certain unwillingness to be bullied.

Someone so desperate for a bit of privacy is up beside the crane cab, chatting on his mobile!

Waved to tailor - haven't seen him in ages!

And one not-at-all pleasure - son went into his Maths GCSE & five minutes in, had a seizure. He's fine but the grade depends on the next paper so, no pressure...

Best of luck to All Candidates & all who support them, teach them, Mark them or just worry. Meantime cheers Raffles, the yellow stuff is glorious! Says she eyeing linedried bedlinen - diligent training of sons is paying off!

    Good evening everyone :hello:

Mmm, Scotch pancakes. A friend of the family used to make the BEST ones ever. My mum and grandma tried to recreate them and failed miserably. ;)

    Pleasures:

    1) Friend had spare tickets to the London 7s last weekend. Great to see her and meet her partner at last, having heard loads about him. They're obviously happy and I'm truly delighted for her!

    2) Won tickets (I know!) for this Sunday's England v Barbarians match.

    3) Meal planning - and it working. Really good to maintain focus.

    4) Friend popped round for a chat - with some gorgeous tulips. So colourful.

    5) Our garden. It's really coming into its own now, but we need more plants. Anyone know what plants would be suitable to shady, boggy soil? We have a couple of ferns, but would love something a little different!

I'll be back again soon. Take care everyone.

    Pleasures for today (Thursday)

    1) Not a bad sleep, though too hot.

    2) Maths GCSE (paper 1) not too bad, I was told.

    3) Went to the tip to get soil improver.

    4) Planted sweetcorn on the allotment and watered courgettes and pumpkins. Hens well.

    5) So hot this afternoon I dozed off for a minute! I can never sleep in the day, haven't since 1978!

    6) Played football with smaller son.

    7) Dahl and rice for tea.

Drama just now when one of bigger son's friends on Snapchat told him the questions have been "leaked" for tomorrow's Eng Lit exam. Whether they have or not, he mentioned the poem "Exposure" and, goodness knows how, it is one that we had not looked at! He has done an hour on each of the possible poems but does not even have this one printed out. So he'll be up early to do it online - I've done 2 sides of A4 notes on it.

    * It was a pleasure to tell my contractor Bryan that I had found someone, at a reasonable rate, to do the ceiling. Bryan was really gouging us on his quote, so I hired a guy to do the ceiling AND the walls for less than half of what he quoted for the ceiling alone. I could tell it didn't sit well which made me even happier. I have decidedly cantankerous side  when someone tries to fleece me.

    * Reading all the different recipes for pancakes was a real pleasure and I thank you for sharing, although I'm on a low carb diet and nearly fell off the wagon reading them. ;)

    * One box and then all the various items still on the table are all that's left to put up in my kitchen. Light at the end and all. :j

    * Tomato and mint plant are looking lush. DH planted cilantro seeds that I got from his dad over 20yrs ago and a few are coming up. DH is grinning every time he reports on their progress. His dad also grew grapes and his mom would tell stories of the family women taking turns stomping them in a big tub in the basement...for table wine of course. Wine was always at the table for the evening meal when DH was growing up.

    * looked up treacle Firth. No idea before I read about it. :)

    * Leftovers for dinner. DH will have clam chowder as it was extra yummy this time. Son is eyeing the dirty rice. (Cajun cookin!)
Overprepare, then go with the flow.
