Evening all - hope you're all still there and haven't blown / washed away! I've just had to move the Christmas tree as my roof's leaking quite badly and I was worried the drips were going to land on the electric lights - I'll call my landlord tomorrow morning and he can add it to the 'to do' list, along with the garden fence which has started to tear free from its moorings. :(

    1) Had to go into town this morning to collect my mum's present from the post office - I missed the worst of the weather but still got thoroughly soaked, but changing into dry clothes when I got home was definitely a pleasure!

    2) Wrapping presents while watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and sipping bucks fizz - very festive!

    3) A nice phone call from someone who was able to offer a very positive reference for the pet sitter who will be looking after Isis over Christmas.

    4) Having lots of old towels to catch all the water coming through my ceiling!

    5) Last episode of Tudor Farm to watch tonight, albeit viewed between raindrops (can you see an emerging, damp theme here? ;)).

Welcome to NPJC - it's a great username and suggests you'll fit in beautifully on this thread!
Back after a very long break!

Back in the land of wifi! Hurrah!

So I'm now the proud owner of a new shiny filling.....silver was MUCH cheaper than white and unless I start braying liking a donkey you're not likely to see it!

Niece and great niece who is absolutely great came to visit this afternoon.

Friend came for tea and left her daughter and presents for under the tree...our country cottage is fully decorated for Christmas and beautifully done. It has a bookcase full of books, magazines ,DVDs and games. A TV magazine, shortbread and wine were left for us. Although I bought washing up liquid / powder etc there were actually some left. They have left gifts for the kids under the tree too. A basket full of lovely toiletries in the bathroom, There are even hot water bottles! Everything seems to be thought of already :)

I love sprouts pirate Pete and bought a bag to share with my mum today and a bag of spuds too. We won't eat a full bag and she won't eat a full bag so sharing was perfect!

Mum is slowly ( very slowly) recovering from surgery so I was glad to be able to do something practical today instead of just being on the phone. So I went to supermarket with her , then did a bit if housework ....even did her ironing :)

I bought a pretty bunch of tulips which are starting to open up....and my MIL gave me a lovely ponsetia.

Almost bedtime....can feel my eyes starting to close! Aiming for a 5.30 am start at the earliest :)

    Welcome NPJC x

    1. Panto was great - oh yes it was!

    2. Weather was horrible, but my lovely coat was waterproof, so there :)

    3. DD's friend's mummy drove her back this evening, meaning I could have an earlyish wobbleade.

    4. Oxford wasn't horribly busy, sad for the shopkeepers, but great for us.

    5. Woke up to cuddles from DD.

    6. Just had a lovely email from a chum at my old church, hopefully we'll get to have a chat in person next weekend! (That is, depending on what time DD's sleepover finishes....)

NPJC - it's bullying listenup time:

DON'T CHANGE YOUR NAME,accompanied by the most pretty of Pleases.
kittikins says no, and ccp, moi aussi. I'm even going to speak ahead for ...nah, best let them stump up own tuppences.
bop may need a tiny reminder[Raffles will assist]that pendantry is a hanging matter with mandatory chain of office. We don't like to upsweat him too much, as we are yellowthing reliant upon his tender feelings - so much so that I throw in this sop for edification and delight. In my little All Black World Champions countree, we fête Queen's Birthday Weekend as a Public Holiday.
http://publicholiday.co.nz/nz-public-holidays-2014.html. & will likely be there.
Gosh, all those provincial ones are new!
Nearly a Welcome to you too sleepymans - would have been if I'd known I could come round and share your lamb[I think we're world champions of them too, modestly].

    1. Glad I came back in to 'phone. Long talk with someone who needed this.

    2. Clive James is on again now. Read a bit more this morning, learnt Prue had 'evicted' him, for the old, old, reason and he admires her for it, but they are talking, after a fashion. She is the true scholar that he has always longed to be, and is achieving. If ever you get a chance to see elder daughter Claerwen's paintings in the real, do.

    3. Asked chap beside me on P&R bus if he'd mind hitting buzzer for Grafton Centre please. He's mid-30's and answered 'Yes, yes' most excitedly, before saying 'We've got 2 boys. They ALWAYS do it first. I NEVER get a turn...'
    It was lovely.

    4. Book I'd dithered over for France was still there in The Works, about the 'real' Downton Abbey.

    5. More sudden shyness about yabbering on here with more rtc coups, but Little Waitrose paid me £5.55 tonight. Plaquettes of nectarines and kiwifruit were 25p[multi-buy and My Waitrose 10% discount applied] and 3 'party pieces' beef wellingtons[already on 3 for 2] were[STRIKE]£6.99[/STRIKE] 49p! All sorts of kick-ins produced this most peculiar outcome, which I know friend will love when I drop all off demain.

    6. Into a particular bookdealer's for all that's good feeling there and talk about CJ. Wanted Empson's 'Seven Types of Ambiguity' again,
no idea who has mine these days.

1-hour wait for bus back was foul wet windy dark. 11 green came before 1 red. We who waited were of one accord: Had we been needing Green.... well, you know what comes next.

Best stop, can smell the mulling ros! must be at point of Mull.

Hatches, batten, snugs, SIT and Stay, furnace leaps, hwb, cups that cheer, the whole vocabulary....BUT, since yesterday, we are on the sinusoidal curve that counts.

    Evening everyone.:)

CPP, keeping fingers crossed that your little sister got out OK. Our fence also uprooted itself late afternoon. Good luck with your roof - bit more serious than a fence.
VJsmum, DfV, Portmerion has been on my 'want to visit' list ever since I saw The Prisoner when it was first broadcast in the '60s. I'll get there one day!

    Five pleasures for Monday:

    1. Getting back into the warm after trying to do temporary repairs to the fence in wind, rain and darkness. Never has the house felt so welcoming! Shame that this coming week's meal plan was in the non-waterproof pocket of the coat that I threw on in a hurry and that the ink with which I wrote it has run so much that most of the meals are no longer legible - meals could be fun this week!:D

    2. DSs and I did a collective effort on trying to get the house clean - it's a vast improvement on what it was before.:T

    3. DSs did a good job of making the ginger biscuits. Ampersand, I'll post the recipe soon. Not sure where it's been tidied up!

    4. Made tuna and fennel risotto for supper. Am feeling very please with myself that I've now used up all of last week's fresh food except for one small cos lettuce and a couple of onions. Now have space for tomorrow's delivery.

    5. The Christmas tree lights still make me smile.

Sweet dreams, stay safe, keep warm,
    B x

..and because I need the OS pleasure of a rant about this:
    http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/dec/23/homelessness-crisis-shelter-charity-helpline

I know some of us deal with similar situations often.
It outrages me for those who are inarticulate, fearful, disenfranchised.

I hope I NEVER forget that bad things can happen to good people. 'Cathy Come Home' never went away.

Quick pleasures from me for today as smaller son is STILL awake so I'm going to go to bed as he then has no excuse to come downstairs!

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Hardly any rain leaked down the chimney into the living room. (Still got terrible wind and rain).

    3) Went swimming with sons and my brother. Bigger son had lost his trunks but there they were, left in the changing room! Then smaller son realised the rubber bit was missing from his nose clips but we found it on the bottom of the pool.

    4) Lunch out in a caf!.

    5) Muppets Christmas Carol at our local cinema. They were sold out! The party games before hand were odd as we were all in our seats but we did Mexican waves, a sing song and passing balloons back through the rows.

    6) Just quick pasta for tea but also used up the fennel that came in my veg box and that was OK but a bit like fried celery.

    7) Absolutely nothing worth watching on TV so tidied up, on 2nd load of washing, cleaned bathroom, did ironing etc.

    8) Just been speaking to my school friend as it is her birthday today.

    That's it!

Oh, and 9) I believe Just a Minute has started again. Sorry, Ampersand.

Christmas Eve tomorrow! Smaller son off to brother in law's to play on the new X box game with him and bigger son and I are off to mum and dad's. Then it will be Titfield Thunderbolt viewing (smaller son may explode at a whole film about steam engines) and the customary new Christmas Eve pyjamas...

'Twas the day before Christmas and all through the country cottage not a creature was stirring...just how I like it....peace and quiet ...for now.
We have my friends 6 year old daughter staying with us so was a bit hectic at bedtime but she's been good as gold overnight and we have a morning of baking to look forward to. I have given her baking accessories for her Christmas gift so we shall use them this morning.

I have been wide awake since 2 am which is just ridiculous but that's jet lag for you! Watched I player which is a gift in itself! Watched the magdellana sisters and then episode1 of Tudor monastery farm.

Had my bath! This is such a pleasure and one that I was really looking forward to.

Right.....I'm off to warm an oven up!

Have a lovely Christmas Eve and I will be back later.....just because I can :)

Seems funny you being in real time Mhags
Frith - ooh the Titfield thunderbolt, fab
    Welcome NPJC
Broomstick, tuna and fennel risotto sounds erm, interesting. Was it ok?
DforV no idea what your pleasures are about, but glad you enjoyed them :p
    Welcome sleepy mans
LFS "rose garden" reminds me of when I was very little. My auntie ran a pub and she used to let me put it on the jukebox and I would go round the pub singing it. The other song I loved, bizarrely for a small girl and bizarre that it was on a pub jukebox, was "when I was a lad" from HMS Pinafore. Started my love of G and S. ooh, might stick some on today while I do my cleaning
Kittikins, glad you enjoyed it,, but I am panto'd out. Such a good way to introduce kids to the theatre though, I remember DD goi g on Boxing Day in her new Snow White dress.
CCP hope your leak gets sorted
BoP hope you get the train set.

    Yesterday's pleasures

1 out at 7 for butchers, post office and two supermarkets. Barely a queue
2 butchers hat was pect secular (left that in cos it's funny :D supposed to say spectacular). A Viking shaped helmet that looked like a turkey with legs and wings where the horns would be
3 went to dentists for new mouth guard. Gave me the set of plaster impressions they took. Some fun to be had with those I feel :D
4 made sticky toffee pud for tomorrow, marzipanned Christmas cake, cleaned kitchen, got previously made lasagne from freezer for tea.
5 DS said he sat up till after midnight. reading. You know, like a book. That he didnt have to read. Like for pleasure. <<faints>>

    Happy Christmas Eve.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
