Good evening all !
5 for today
1. I visited a company that I have worked with for a year and they were in a very bad way back then . There has been lots of "page stabbing" , disagreements, and distrust on their part. Now a year on, and a dozen visits later they are doing fabulously and are looking to be leaders in their field . It has been a bumpy ride though I can tell you - and they know that I am not a "One Trick Pony" either
2. Had to tell another company that we were going to "suspend" business with them today .. talk about life's rich tapestry eh ?
3. A new member of the team at work found out that I had hens and said that her friend is moving and has a hen and she can't take it with her when she moves ......:) !!
4.Paid the balance for three of us for our Xmas dinner at a Country House - definitely not OS but I have saved for this and will treat my Mum to the dinner for her Xmas pressie .Its not long now kids !
5. No work until Monday and pay day tomorrow !

My pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Survived smaller son's exclusion appeal meeting. It has been adjourned as they didn't have all the information they wanted first.
Minus point was they decided to ask the ex-OH his opinion. We were supposed to be commenting on the head's statement and on smaller son generally. Everyone felt awkward when he spent 15 minutes criticising my parenting, saying HE never has any trouble when he looks after his sons and he knew nothing about the new school. Then he started going on about there being nothing wrong with smaller son and he has no disability and I shouldn't be entitled to dla for him and he wants to know "all about THAT".
So that was nice. :-/
Then I had my turn and said "I think this meeting is supposed to be about C so I'll refrain from any criticisisms of MrF" and left a nice pause!
2) My mum was very sensible in the meeting and turns out she knew 1 of the governors really well! She vaguely knew the other 2 governors (as did I).
3) Pork bap from the village butchers for lunch.
4) Boys had their hair cut! Bigger son consented to a few mm off. Smaller son had about 3 inches off and looks great. :-)
5) Went to sainsburys for Advent calendars.
6) Nice HM lasagne for tea and roasted sweet potato as I had 1 left.
7) Watching the Big Bang Theory now before I'm a Celebrity.0 -
Dundee Doll - 3 Word Wednesday is on Simon Mayo's Radio 2 Drivetime show when he requests that you sum up your day in 3 words... Mine was "Wine, pizza - perfect!"
My 5 pleasures for Thursday:
1) Clean sheets on the bed. Lovely night's sleep coming this way.
2) Delivery taken of a new top from Boden. I'd got a voucher which they'd sent me, there was also 20% off.... so I only paid £11 AND I got cashback
3) When doing my Tesco shopping this evening, the local Rotary club were collecting food items for distribution in the local area. Needless to say, I bought a couple of tins for them.
4) Picked up a Tesco Real Food magazine this evening, which has some fabulous ideas for Christmas. DH and I are in charge of doing a starter on Christmas Day, and the one in that mag looks pretty good...
5) Realised that I need to start thinking about Christmas cards. Eek!

Kittikins - well done on passing the exam
Frith - ex OH sounds a right charmer - not. At least things are starting to happen with school
Hello Fuddle - nice to see you over here, this is a lovely thread!
Vicky - ooh clean sheets, lovely
Sparrer - hope you OK.
For today
1, busy busy day which was good, some tutorials and a teaching session. The latter didn't quite go as well as I'd hoped but was OK
2. walked to and from train so got some free exercise
3. no cooking as freezer food for tea - mine was fish pie
4. in bed with my lappy reading round and watching stuff
5. day off tomorrow :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thanks for the thoughts Tealady, I am fine. Been fairly busy with house and work, thankfully just a lot of puddles in this area as we are above all watercourses. Now of course, we'll have ice - I hope Broomstick is busy getting her home back to normal and didn't get flooded.
Kittikins, my job is online tutoring for those tests, I'm a qualified tutor for both Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
Well done on passing - especially as you kept missing on the practice tests. My students have to pass two practice tests, before they can book the real thing. Unfortunately some are misguidedly helped by other members of staff where they work; or they scrape practice test passes and don't listen to advice.
Fuddle, hello. Just echoing VJ'smum, I love this thread.
Pleasures.
1. Celebrating the 50th birthday of a very good friend, along with his family and girlfriend. We met nearly 20 years ago and were an item for a few years on and off, before common sense clicked in and we realised that we weren't soul mates, but we were great mates. My DS was with me, which was lovely.
2. Finished David Mitchell's autobiography, that I got free to review from Am@zon and it was great. It made me 'happy cry' towards the end, I don't follow celebrities so wasn't aware of any of his personal life. Then I Googled and discovered how happy he is at the moment...
3. Lovely OS-ish meals including a vast pot of bacon broth, which means I don't have to cook tomorrow.
4. A long chat with my lovely niece, who wanted advice on childcare. She is currently spending up to £600 a week at a local day nursery for her 2 and 1 year old. That can't continue long term. I was a Reg. Childminder for years and taught the Diploma in Home Based Childcare for a number of years for colleges and the National Childminding Association, so I had a bit of an idea of what I was talking about.
5. Great evening at the live music club. One of the singers was an ex professional singer and musician (Remember the 70s TV series Follyfoot? He sang the theme tune with the other members of his folk band). He was spellbinding, with some wonderful versions of unaccompanied traditional folk songs. As always when someone is really, really good, everyone else seems to raise their game to prove they are good too.
6. Painkillers are helping me, they took a bit of getting used to again after the summer off them. I'm rationing the more powerful ones. I kept falling asleep over my netbook until I struck the right balance - one of the reasons I haven't been online as much!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Well of courses Hurrah for Friday....bedtime here, been another warm day, about 30o ....not as boiling as yesterday but still too hot for a wee Scottish lass!
1. Had a quick chat with my FIL walking from carpark to work. The books I had ordered off amaz0n will be delivered to them....thought I should let them know!
2. Work was alright, got away 15 minutes early so was home before I would normally even be out the door which was nice! My 2 full time colleagues were in a sillier than usual mood....they are such boys! , so had a bit of a laugh in the quieter times.
3. Home to a lovely letter from my letter writing friend, lovely to hear all her news. Looking forward to seeing her where we go home.....3 weeks today
4. One good thing about DS working with OH is they are coming home at a decent time! OH had been working on trying to catch up with stuff and was getting very tired, however, they have been home at a reasonable time.
Don't think my son is too enamoured with the life of a working person , however, the money is such an incentive to get up in the morning!
5. We had takeaway for tea and it was nice, from a Chinese / Malaysian restaurant in next town . We have not been there since we moved house. Very yummy and very reasonably priced. Leftovers for tomorrow.
Have the loveliest of Fridays
happy St Andrew's Day to the Scots amongst us0 -
OS pleasures
1) about to sit an actually write a letter to a dear friend as opposed to email. I fear I may go on and on...
2) trying a rationing recipe for mince and onion pie later
can I continue 3,4 and 5 later. I'm undecided :rotfl:0
