Evening all.
A bit of a quick post from me tonight as I'm so tired I could fall asleep sitting here!
Broomstick - I'm glad you didn't all end up going for an unscheduled swim!
VJsmum - well done on the quiz result! :T My team came second last night, with 9 out of 10 on the sports round.(Most of which came from a sports-mad regular who was sitting at the bar and whispering answers to us whenever the quiz master's back was turned.
)
1) A work meeting fuelled by a colleague's delicious HM shortbread.
2) Picked up some RTC potato croquettes, which I've always had a fondness for - they've got to be RM, though, as HM ones just aren't the same - it's the artificial additives which make them taste so good.
3) Managing to laugh at a haven't-really-read-your message reply to an email I sent to a colleague today - "I haven't had a response to an email I sent to someone about a specific situation" - "really? Have you sent them an email about it?". :wall:
4) Essay all finished and submitted so I can just sit around with a book tonight.
5) Artificial potato croquettes for dinner tonight.
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening
Broomstick - Glad you all managed to stay dry and long may it continue
Pleasures for today,
1. Packed lunches for everyone again today and mine was a corned beef and potato pasty with beans, yummy. I will always be a northern girl at heart:D
2. Finally getting my head around a project I am working on today. I think I drove one of the guys mad at work today as I just wasn't getting it but got there in the end. It is quite a major business critical project so am quite (very) scared of messing it up:eek:
3. Enjoying a glass of wine with dinner after the day I've had was very welcome.
4. NSD but after checking my credit card spend this month is just as well and will need a few more
5. Walked to and from work today which was quite nice and mean't I was organised this morning.
6. Managed to get some washing line dried today
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Sudden very sore throat and muzzy head so a quick 5 from me this evening. (Weds)
1) Smaller son did even more homework. The amount I thought was ridiculous, he did in 2.5 days (apart from 1 sheet!)
2) Window man here. New window frames in the living room and kitchen and the difference is incredible. Of course, this being my ancient house, there is always something dreadful waiting to be unearthed and this time it was there was nothing under the window sill. Well, brick on the outside but fresh air and newspaper on the inside. No wonder this house has been cold!
So the man had to rebuild under the windowsill which meant smaller son and I dashed off down the field where there is an old workshop built in the same handmade bricks as the house. Got a few which are now my new bit of wall.
All OK after that!
3) Pigs still alive. Brother couldn't get them to eat, they've lost their appetites but strangely they could manage quantities of chocolate. He gave them marmite for extra B vitamins and we'll be looking up which other foods will be helpful for them.
4) A present for sons arrived in the post from a fellow poster on here. :-) It was particularly useful for keeping smaller son busy upstairs so the window man could get on. Thank you.
5) Had to have a good clean up of brick dust etc so the house looks better now.
6) Strange phone call from smaller son's educational psychologist - a sensible woman but conspicuous by her absence in recent months. She must have just heard he has been expelled because all of a sudden she is very interested in his case again. I said I was taking him to look round his new school tomorrow and she offered to come with us! That would be a bit much (look at your new school, meet the other children and the teachers - now be grilled by an ed psych!!) so she will be coming here in a couple of weeks instead.
7) Made shepherds pie for tea followed by blackberry and apple crumble.
Busy day tomorrow- looking round the new school then bigger son's parent evening at high school followed by swimming with sons and my brother.
8) Nearly forgot a bigger son quote. Playing monopoly this evening "That property is already in my portfoliage" :-)0 -
1. DD and I managed to have fun this morning, despite needing to get up at the crack of dawn (or so it felt) so I could go to London for my course.
2. My lovely friend who took her up to school for me
3. Another lovely friend who looked her after school and took her along with his daughter to Brownies tonight
4. The course was quite dull but it did boost my self-confidence a bit as I realised that my CV isn't as bad as I thought it was, and that I do have lots of good skills I can waffle on about
5. Finished early so managed to go back to Ikeea and order the kitchen worktop, and used my £100 gift voucher to make it cheaper, hoorah!
6. Flirted with chaps in B&Q to get them to lift the heavy kitchen sink I wanted into a trolley and then into the car for meJust need to find a school run dad tomorrow morning to get it out of the car and into the garage! Its far too heavy for me to carry on my own but I could help someone else lift it.........

Hope that head/throat bug disappears quickly, Frith.
Have kept going steadily all day sorting out stuff. At last the deep de-cluttering is happening. Do I love it/need it/use it? No? Out it goes, especially if it is stored anything up to three feet off ground level! After last night, I have a very strong gut feeling that we will get flooded this autumn/winter so I really must get sorted now.
My five for today:
1) All the good wishes from you people. Very cheering up, especially last night when I was in a bit of a panic.
2) The online river level reading mid-morning was looking much better and those for the next two reading points upstream were looking good too. (There are big water-meadows upstream and if they are too flooded there's an awful lot of water sat there.)
3) It was fine all day and there is very little rain forecast before next week.
4) Managed a car boot-filled trip to the dump/recycling and there was one of the most beautiful red sky sunsets I've ever seen on my way there.
5) The smell of veggie tikka cooking on the stove right now.I collect DS1 at midnight on Wednesdays from an evening of sports training in London and he's starving so I make late supper and take him a plateful to eat on the way home.
Sleep well,

Dundeedoll - didn't want to read and run (or read and lie down, as I am in bed). A bit of crying and tidying would be my actions of choice too. Hope you are OK.0
-
DD - going to see a solicitor is a very good idea, don't let exOH put emotional pressure on you not to. Finances, sadly, tend to become overwhelmingly important in breakups, and you need to ensure that you are both protected, but especially you sweetie xx0
