HTC Hero on 02 simplicity sim

Hi I'm looking to get a new phone and quite like to HTC Hero. The reviews I have read have been very encouraging too which is always a bonus.

I'd like to buy one straight out so as not getting into a contract, probably from ebay. What I'd like to know is can they easily be unlocked and If I was to do this would it work ok with a 02 simplicity sim in. I need to stay on 02 as they are the only network I can get a signal with where I live.

Would I still get all the apps that are available even though I was on an 02 sim?

I don't think anyone can gurantee you that phone can be unlocked. Newer phones are more difficult to unlock. Moreover, unlocking a phone can void warranty.

Your best bet will be buying something like Nokia 5800 (or similar) from Nokia's site directly and it will be unlocked with 2 years warranty.

Does HTC sell their phones directly? If so, you might get an unlocked one from theirs.

My advice is to buy it SIM free. Amazon, Play, Mobilefun all stock it. Not the cheapest method in all likelihood, but it will be an unlocked model that will work with any SIM.
