Well there's another option. For example I'm clumsy, with large hands, so I know I'm never going to be a natural-born calligrapher - but I can use a keyboard pretty well.

Well, he wont be a surgeon that's for sure. Who knows what life holds for him. As long as he's healthy and happy thats all that matters ehh ;)

He was on an IEP at primary because he's slow at writing. They corrected the way he held his pen in year 3, which to me was way too late and since then they tried pen grips, special pens etc.

He did badly burn his right hand when he was little, and seems to have reduced sensation in it, so I suppose that might be a factor but I think it's mainly a concentration issue. I can ask him to get mesomething from the kitchen, he'll go but come back without it.

He's told me his English teacher has been helping him because she knows he cant keep up with the others :o

hmmmm. is he left handed? (just wondering )

It could just be a nice teacher, did the sec school ask about the IEP?

What is the school like? Is it approachable? Could you ask his form tutor or his English teacher?- In my form I have a boy who has always struggled does well with one to one but his Mum just shrugs and says it doesn't matter (makes me so mad) I have phoned a fair bit probably cos she is so useless - what I am getting at is that if it s a parent friendly school they would/should ring if they think he needs extra help at home and if they haven't then its probably ok? mind you if its a pants school?? (does he have a journal you sign? can you have a sneaky look through his books? or would that upset him? has he had any levels given yet)

I will look for some stuff we use to build concentration skills (it is possible even in teenage boys!)

    Nevertheless she persisted.

No, I'm sure he's right handed. Although his dad writes left handed, but does everything else right handed.

They havent rung, just sent letters. I'll ask his y6 teacher if they sent a copy of his IEP, I'm pretty certain they did.

He does have a planner that we sign each week( he lost it for a while, but has it back now :o) He wouldnt mind us looking through his books. I noticed at primary, the subjects/topics that interested him had fab work/great comments but literacy was full of 'could do more' comments.

When I sent the authority slips back last week, I wrote on them to let me know if there was anything we could do to help at home (also thanking them for helping him :o)

I think parents evening will be early next year, maybe I should make an appointment to have a chat to his form tutor. She's lovely ;)

Any advice you can give me to help him would be muchly appreciated. He's 11, so not quite teaching a [STRIKE]teenager[/STRIKE] old dog new tricks xx

  • not really spud :( Some worrying feelings etc in my head at the moment and some not good to feel signs. Got a lot of stuff whizzing in my head but my body is tired.

Can't decide what to do - crawl under the duvet and cry, sit on the sofa and stare into space, kick a wall or pour another drink.

    It's not good.
