Sounds like the power supply cant cope.

Buy another from ebuyer for about £15 and haul your current one out.

depends on whether or not it worked for a time previously without fault.

also, if the psu couldn't cope then there would probably be other indications, rather than just random restarts (but not always right enough)

think we need some system specs ;)

(use a prog like Belarc Advisor to tell you all your sys specs)

I would go with most guys ..........a virus try booting up the pc with the internet unplugged then run a virus scan hopefully that will cure your problem...

i'm with Kilty. My money is on the PSU.
About 12 years ago we had a customer with the same problem on a server that had been working fine for a ages then started rebooting. I had it on the bench and couldn't find anything wrong with it. I was sat on the bench chatting to somebody and jumped off the bench, as soon as i jumped the server rebooted. Swapped the PSU and it sorted the problem, dry joint or something.

If you've upgraded the memory then it could be a bad stick, otherwise PSU is quite likely as any drop in power can force the pc to restart.

It is most likely going to be the PSU. Looks like it has almost neared the end of its life span and you need to get a new one ASAP before it starts affecting your motherboard. Then you will end up having bigger problems.

I have the same problem and didn't know why it was happening but on reflection the problem occurred after i replaced a second hand psu because a previous psu exploded! don't know why I didn't connect the two incidences together but thanks for the advice and have just ordered a new pcu from ebuyer..

I ran the virus scan - no problem there. Will try the other sites recommended by the lovely people on here but I'm not techie savy. Blush, blush - What's a PSU?
