BT Monthly Bill Too Expensive.

I primarily use my phone line for Broadband and I have opted for option 1 with BT, however I feel my monthly phone bill is too expensive, is there anything more I can do to reduce it? Below is this months bill broken down:

Cost of Calls £13.73

Your benefits -£1.09

Rental charges £23.61

VAT £5.44


Total now due
£41.69

I'm using mine for the same thing...not for calls mainly, just to use the ADSL2

My ISP routes the calls when I use the phone and it's usually 3 or 4 quid tops for those.
BT charges me about 45 quid a quarter for their part.

They also like to add a few quid just for me havig the option to pay my bill without DD ...if that's what I choose. That is robbery.

You seem to be paying WAY too much if that's really monthly billing and not quarterly.

Not sure how you calculate your rental charges, is that the line rental and broadband together? BT Option 1 gives you free evening and weekend calls, so presumably you are making a lot of premium rate, mobile, or daytime calls? Switch to Unltd Anytime for your call package, which should then give you a total of £40.66 monthly with Broadband Option 3 bundled.
I presume you are already on DD and paperless billing, otherwise this adds £4 a month.
You should also consider switching your broadband to another provider, as BT is not competitive for the basic Option 1 service.

£13.73 in a month on calls via BT? Good grief, I can't remember when I last paid BT more than 20p in a month for calls.

+1 Very rarely I pay anything in call charges. That includes my OH's more than an hour/day call to India

We got a greatly reduced price when we told them we were going elsewhere, amazing what they will offer when you threaten to take away your custom.

We get option 1 broadband (that's all we need the phone line for really) and our last quarterly bill was approx £29.

Line rental is £11.25 with DD and online billing.

Hi parallax_20. Just to clarify. The Basic plan Unlimited Weekend plan (option 1 you refer too) only allows inclusive calls from 10pm Friday to 12 Sunday. In order to have the inclusive calls in the Evenings and Weekends at no extra cost you have to sign up to the Free Evening and Weekend plan at no extra cost. This plan has a minimum 12 month term for this plan.

Since when have BT started their weekends at 10 p.m. on Fridays?

BT Calling Plans; -
"and at Weekends (Friday midnight – Sunday midnight)"


If BTs reps can't understand their T&Cs how on earth are their customers supposed to? Or is it a ploy to get them to pay for calls they think they are getting included?
