Just as well he wasn't in the jobcentre they'd have been patting him down to check for a colostomy bag.CharlieBilly wrote: »There was a guy this week in news from Grimsby who has a card to say he needed the toliet. The manager was wrong to refuse. Toilets that are for disabled people are just that it does not mean for those only in wheelchairs. Id write a letter to the manager stating your disgust over the treatment of your partner and suggest training of his staff in the d,d,a act.
Id also talk to your local Mp to stop others being treated in this way.0 -
Horrendous. People make themost stupid and cruel responses and think they can judge. Speak to MP! Complain they need to learn. Just to show this silly rule and people thinking they can decide who is disabled enough to use facilities though is unfortunately not an isolated incident I'll share I was told I wasnt disabled enough to use lift in asda once (no chair or stick) and am still not allowed to use disabled car park space at work (yes I work & disabled - bang goes that silly idea) I had official apology lettter from asda when I complained.
Fight not just for him but others. These stupid ideas need to be challenged and corrected.0 -
i dont think youl find hes broken the law, whether he was morally right or not is a differant matter and i can see why your angry.
its disabiliy discrimination to treat a disabled person less favourably than another person.
this would mean its against the law to have a toilet for joe bloggs or john doe to use, but not one a disabled person could access.
it doesnt mean they cant have a staff disabled access toilet they let disabled customers use (at their discretion), where there are no facilities for able bodied customers to use. that isnt disability discrimination.
i have ms and carry a card from the ms society stating my condition and asking for certain emergency help i may need such as to sit down urgently, use a toilet, may have a problem with my speech, or may lose my ability to walk.
gotta admit my local jcp are realy nice , when i go for an appointment if i have to wait and the chairs are taken an extra one always immediately appears for me.0 -
I thought you couldn't be registered disabled anymore? You used to be able to, but they did away with it - at least in my area."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0

Also, I just wanted to add that the manager was disgusting, your poor husband. It was total discrimination to invisible disability - something people desperately need educating on.
A radar key is a good idea, although it wouldn't have helped in this case. What do we need to do - carry around our medical record?

when asked if someone with incontinence problems could use the toilet he said no!
Would he say the same thing if someone happened to soil themselves (luckily have managed not to do this yet) in the JCP? Doubt it.I thought you couldn't be registered disabled anymore? You used to be able to, but they did away with it - at least in my area.
If you're visually impaired you can be; but I have no idea about other disabilties. So, the manager says no, you cannot use the toilet because you are not in need (as per the rules). Nothing wrong with that.
How would this guy (or anyone for that matter) know whether someone was in need or not? As someone with bowel problems, I could be ok one minute and the next I really need the toilet. What do we need to do - carry around our medical record?
Some people carry around small cards or wear a bracelet/necklace stating that they have a disability. May also contain extra information such as medication they take, allergies, etc.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Poor you i really feel for you, if it was me i would have wee'd on the floor, just to see their faces.
So they would have to suffer the smell until a cleaner comes.0 -

I think you - and that horribly-uninformed poster Ruby Moon - will find that the staff there DID break the law:
Definition of disability
The DDA is very clear on the definition of disability under the DDA. For anyone or any organisation providing a service, falling foul of the provisions of this LAW is illegal.
The LEGAL definition of disability doesn't include 'being wheelchair bound' or any other such crass insulting term, nor does it include 'being registered disabled' (nor does it include 'having a Blue Badge' when wrongly denied use of a disabled parking bay at a Supermarket etc...but that's another story for the parking board).
HTH. Shocking, illegal, discriminatory treatment of the OP's OH. :mad:PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
