I'm in a London suburb, and there are no greengrocers any where near me. The only market is on a Tuesday about 20 mins drive, and I haven't seen a greengrocers stalls there on the odd occasion I have had time to go. Unless you count the monthly farmers' market which is very expensive. I have a butchers, and did have a bakers but it has now changed into a cafe. I have to buy fruit and veg at the supermarket. And not because I 'don't care' or am 'too lazy to shop around'.May spend - £291.40/£320.00
June spend - £106.40/£320.000 -
I'd eat 2-3 cherries, once a year.... they're fiddly and you end up dribbling, then biting round the stone in the middle, then it's over and you have to wash your hands.
So a punnet would be unlikely to be acquired by me.0 -
Not a single greengrocer in my town, a few farm shops well out of town and a market once every couple of months where all the stalls are "trendy" and sell fruit for 3 times the supermarket price.
I remember growing up in Kent. Never paid for fruit, fresh picked cherries, apples, pears, plums, strawberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, gooseberries, all free.0 -
this thread is for listing the Aldi Super Six offers - please don't let it descend into arguments or off topic discussions.
Thank you.0 -
no greengrocers where I live either MrT's where I try not to shop on principle. I was in aldis this afternoon and althought the cherries looked nice and seem good value for money as PN says they are fiddly things to eat. I did buy some delicious strawberries though and they were very reasonably priced at £1.29 a punnet.
No PYO near to me at all, but I believe if you carry on down the A2 towards the coast there is a place just off the road that you can pick stuff . The farmers locally in Upchurch will only have paid pickers as they say its not worth their while to have any PYO especially for cherries I think its the insurance and H&S with folk on site they worry about There used to be an old orchard where you could help yourself as it wasn't used commercially any more but that got ploughed over and there are nowhere near the amounts of places becasue of EU apple imports Possibly at Brogdale but their prices are quite expensive.
I am quite happy to buy the stuff in aldis as its good value and the turnover is very quick so its not often you get poor quality from them .No street markets anymore either locally Our local market was closed down by the council several years ago, and replaced by a Wilkinsons0 -
Haven't managed to get into Aldi yet so hope the super 6 cherries are not sold out!
I'm lucky there there is a regular market where I live in North Essex that has a greengrocers selling decent quality F&V, there are also a couple of actual greengrocer shops, one right in the town centre and the other just on the periphery.0 -
The cherries I got on Saturday have been a disappointment. Quite a lot of soft ones mixed in. A couple were so soft they went straight in the bin. The firm ones were lovely though! Usually I am quite happy with the keeping qualities of our Aldi's F & V selection but the cherries let me down!
We too are sadly lacking in F & V shops hereabouts. None in the town centre and I have given up on the stall in the indoor market."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
