Not sure what type the apples were but don't think they were Royal Gala, they had really green bits, think I have tried them before and they were a bit sharp.

Maris Piper was 2.5kg but only 59p.
Sounds like you should have gone to my shop and I to yours, don't know what type the apples were, quite good value for 59p but they were VERY red so I didn't bother. Sprouts were 39p, blueberries were a really tiny pack.

yes apples 99p sorry !! not keen on apples - i buy them with all good intentions but usually they end up as eves pudding !!
