Mouse droppings on tin from supermarket - Advice needed!

Hi
I took out a tin of chopped tomatoes from my cupboard this morning and i felt something on my hand so i put the tin down and washed my hands as i am quite obsessed with cleanliness:rolleyes: Only to glace at the tin and see mouse droppings stuck on the top of the tin:eek:
My first thought was to check my cupboard, but it was fine. Then i remembered this tin was from my home delivery on friday!
That means the supermarket (or its warehouse) in question must have mice...
What should i do?

Wash the top of the tin before opening, it will be fine.
  • I would bring it to the supermarkets attention, it could be that there is a mouse in the van and next time it might not be a tin but fresh meat or fruit.

I would definitely either ring up or go in and bring it to their attention, they are usually very helpful and you might save yourself some money off your next shop!
  • in the supermarket where i used to work you would have had a whole mouse on top of the tin

Casserole of mouse with tinned tomatoes. Delicious.

Wash the tin enjoy the tomatoes.

Most, if not all warehouses will have some form of vermin which is why firms like Rentokill exist.

So you're obsessed with cleanliness yet manage not to notice mice crap on tins from the Supermarket when they were delivered and when you put them away? Aye right! Get pest control out to your house ASAP.
  • Thank you for all the replies :) I couldnt get back online until now!

So could your partner by any chance have missed the mouse crap perhaps? I don't allow my 2 cats (Zig and Zag) anywhere near my food store.

IMO thats a slight over reaction involving Enviromental health, should have just informed the store and let them know if you really wanted to do something. the vast majority of warehouses will have vermin and its in a tin so wouldn't require to be in a ultra clean storage area

Mouse droppings outside the tin could mean mouse inside the tin!
