If you are on a budget and take the trouble to eat cheaply, then meals will cost next to nothing. I spent a while in Hyderabad, and my employer was paying my expenses. For meals, all I had to do was keep the receipt, fill in the amount on a claim form and get the money back in pounds. However, the sums of money were so small that it was just not worth the trouble to claim them.

Big hotels and fancy restaurants can charge more, perhaps as much as ten pounds for a nice meal in a really swanky place. And of course costs are likely to be much higher in a place like Bangalore.

Alcohol is always going to be expensive.

    Non-Vegetarian?

    You mean meat? LOL

In India restaurants are described as either veg or non-veg. The term used by the OP is correct.
