Living costs in India

Im going to south india and I appreciate that prices would be different depending on the areas. However, in general how much does food costs? Eg. how much does a non-vegetarian meal costs, beer etc?

Thanks:A

I have a friend who winters in India like a migratory bird and he reckons as an average he doesn't spend £10 a day, this is on a room in a cheap place, at least two meals, tobacco, lots of coffee and some alcohol sometimes.

It also very much depends how tourist the area you are going to is..

We went to VERY tourist areas (Goa, beach holidays) and we paid about £3.50 for main meal and about £1 for coctail (big one).

Generally we spent about £10-15 a day on drinks and food.

Can you tell us where exactly are you going?

well in gujrat i have my own house and own transport.
drinking is banned and can only drink if you have a permit which is 2 bottles of sprits or 20 bottles of beer for every 10 days.
in mumbai i stay at a hotel, have to pay for transport, have to eat out and shopping

in mumbai food will prob cost the same as the uk
places like kfc, pizza hut, mc dee's will be a little bit cheaper then uk prices. i think a meal at mc dee's cost me around 250 rps last year
prices for hotels range from around 2000rps per night to 20000rps per night

in gujrat you won't find many western places to eat. at a local place you can prob feed a family of four for less then 500 rps.
never stayed in a hotel in gujrat so not sure how much it would cost
