Sickness on a bank holiday

My way of thinking is that you are a cheeky so and so can't face up to FACTS or the TRUTH!
Work = PAY
Sickness = Sick Pay
It would be UNFAIR and UNJUST to give you a day off in lieu when you didn't work the bank holiday. You have already had a day off with FULL PAY plus you didn't work the bank holiday either.
Some people.
You are of no help whatsoever and very judgemental, something I could do without.
I didn't just have a day off, I was ill. Big difference.0 -
That was not what the OP was asking. They were asking if the sick day should be on her record or not. IMO this depends on if she was contracted to work the day or not. (as per my previous post).
There is no need to be so rude to people.
Is she a person who likes "using and abusing" the sick pay entitlement the company provide?
Why is she concerned about her "sick record" is it because she will use up all her sick pay entitlement? If she has completed a "self cert" what days has she said she was sick on? She was either sick or fit for work it cannot be both.0 -
Why must it be counted as a day off? on What basis?
You didn't work it so you don't get a day in lieu like those who did work it.
You've just said you got FULL PAY for the days sickness.
If it's counted as a day off then you shouldn't be paid for it shold you?
And I bet you weren't off for more than 3 days as well, I'm right aren't I?
I most definitely did not mean to click thanks for this post. Meant to click quote. :mad:
It is a bank holiday. Therefore she should be paid at normal rate and not work it (Unless she chose to come in for the day in lieu on top of the pay). This is how bank holidays work. The fact she was then ill on this day means she wont get the day in lieu. But IMO as it was a day off anyway then it shouldn't be marked down as "sick".
Why are you being so aggressive and automatically thinking the worst of the OP? And what does it matter how many days she was off?0 -

You have just answered your own question.
On the bank holiday you were ILL so HOW can that day be classed as a DAY OFF?
I am of no help because I know what you are trying to do and you don't like the truth!0 -
happyholly wrote: »Hi everyone I need some help. Earlier in the year I was off sick from work for a few days and this included one bank holiday. Usually if we work a bank holiday we get that day added to our annual leave, but my employers are saying I don't get that day back as I was off sick and didn't actually work. My way of thinking is that it can't then go down as a day off sick and if they are not granting me that day back then the sick day should be taken off my record and it documented as a day off.
I have read through my contract and this type of issue isn't mentioned.
Any thoughts?
You must be joking right?
If you want the day off in lieu, then drag your carcass to work.0 -

Actually quite the opposite. I am very rarely off sick, the last sickness I had was in May which is when the bank holiday was. In the current climate you never know when you may lose your job and I would like to have the best record possible in case I need to look for another job.0 -

She has stated that she gets the first 3 days of sickness at FULL PAY then reverts to SSP. On that basis I am suggesting that on a 4th day of sickness the pay will be very low and not worth having a day on the sick for. I know what she is trying to do and so do you so remove the wool from your eyes and get real!0 -

I am not classing it as a day off, my employer is and also classing it as a sick day. It can't be both.0 -

Very commendable indeed. Pulling scams like the one you are attempting to do will lead you to lose your job and the queues at the dole offices are increasing daily.
If you are very rarely off sick why are you so concerned about one day?
You've been rumbled and you don't like it, ha ha
