  • I missed it but I saw the advert on youtube. I like how he has his own chilled coke cabinet but the tv in his office is only a chunky old one, not even a flat screen and this is the richest guy on earth

    some more here:
    How does he do it?

Yeah, he seemed very down to earth. Lives in a house he bought for $31k (admittedly years ago), drives a battered old car and drinks a lot of coke! It was a good programme.

  • i'd drink a lot of coke if i owned 10bn dollars worth of the company!!!

i drink a lot anyway, and I own zero.

You own coke zero? Wow. Lend us a tenner.

  • he came across as very solid with great morals, I like the way his kids sold their shares (that would be worth about 60 million today) to fund their lives and dreams as musicians and working in charities. the son said I'd rather have my life as it is than have 60 million dollars - I wanted to shake him...:D

He was so unhealthy though, the daughter said he has never eaten any vegetables - and no fruit, then she said actually he has - strawberry shortake and banoffee pie.:rotfl:

It was funny when Evan Davies (very dull) went to his Buffet's local diner and ordered what he has - coke, tbone steak, chips and double brownie pudding - his face when it arrived.

One thing he seems to do though is stick to what he knows throughout all his life - food, family, investments - doesn't seem to be a big risk taker. Thought it was very interesting that he said Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People changed his life - must order one now.

    Second richest, no? :p

I didn't see the show, but I'm willing to bet that Evan 'Dracula' Davis rather glossed over (or utterly ignored) the somewhat darker consequences (and context) of Buffet's multi-billion dollar "investing" for employees, the environment, etc.
For the avoidance of doubt: I work for an IFA.

Doh - I missed that one.
Looks like it's repeated tonight on BBC2 at 2320. I will be watching!

Despite his immense wealth he came across as a very grounded individual. What a contrast to the champagne swilling bankers and fund managers who seem to monopolise our financial institutions these days! I know where I would feel safer investing my money. I once knew a millionaire who also drove around in an ancient car. His view was that it was vulgar to flaunt wealth and also safer as nobody was interested in vandalising an older car whereas all the jealous vandals who owned nothing took a vicarious pleasure in trashing the possessions of those who were more fortunate than themselves.
  • Gates fortune will depend on the microsoft share price which jumped up 10% the other day so I guess he is back on top then

Someone suggested the reason the bankers all got the GDP figure wrong for the uk is because their pay has gone up while the majority of the country is getting poorer, their judgement is impaired.
where as buffet if he doesnt even spend his money might be more realistic maybe, might be the secret of his longer term success

Couldn't agree more. I know few very wealthy people, one drives a battered old car, another drives some very standard Citroen's, only one flaunts it with an Aston Martin, and actively talks up money, and the latter is the one I'd not follow as an example.

There is nothing more vulgar than people who flaunt their wealth overtly and talk about money all the time. Yawn.

They often say, people with real money tend not to show it, only the nouveau riche do that. No accounting for taste, as many a tabloid would demonstrate!

I didn't see the programme, but it sounds like WB obviously has the right idea, and deserves his fortunes.
