Sounds a bit off with the Church though, are there any other ones nearby you could go too? They sound pretty harsh!

Right, all your DooYoo accounts should have my face plastered on them now! Just about to start on Dinahs reviews now, then I think I've caught up!

I'd go to the church in the village where I used to live (where we are hoping to move to and where this house is we're viewing tomorrow), its a stunning traditional stone church, although pretty small, not sure if we could fit everyone in!

NIM is going to speak to the pastor tomorrow, I was so upset at the thought we couldn't marry there when it was a possibility last month, but now this thing with the tithes has come to light maybe it would have been a blessing in disguise. If we do leave I would really miss the people as they're lovely, but I can't let the nice people sway me if we don't agree with the policies.

Last time we went there was a big speak out about the new bill coming up to regulate home education. I know Cinny may well disagree with me on this and thats fair enough, but for anyone unaware this bill is to provide increased regulation of home education, and for a council official to have annual meetings with the child to make sure their education was up to scratch. I think home education needs some kind of regulation as otherwise these children might end up with no qualifications whatsoever, and struggle to get a job all their life, which basically traps them into a cycle of benefits or minimum wage poverty. The church was arguing it should be up to us how or if we educate our children, but I think the child has a right to a reasonable standard of education, whether that is gained at home or in a formal school environment doesn't bother me, but leaving it to the parent to teach to the best of their ability isn't always good enough.

    Nice plastering Cinny!

    Morning!!

Well done to Dinah + Tete for getting on the front DooYoo page :j

Hurrah! I have done a feeble number of reviews, so I thought I'd go on a bit of rating spree instead :D Thanks for the return rates, girls x

I don't love yesterday's DOTD, but I love the hair and think the twiggy centrepiece and second flowers are lovely - those colours would look gorgeous for a September church wedding. Re the church, I agree that you shouldn't stay there if you don't share their policies, but see what NIM says :)

LETS sounds like a great scheme, but I'm not sure I have any skills that anyone else would want :o I could rent OH out though!

    Hi Dinah (and everyone)

Sorry to rudely barge in on the new thread but just wanted to say as someone who has lurked on your diary in its mammoth entirety that I have no doubt you will acheive this latest challenge, your track record speaks for itself! Your initial debt is similar to mine and although I'm not clearing it quite as quickly (!) I find your story incredibly motivating to keep redoubling my own efforts.

Sorry again for interrupting the flow of gorgeous wedding pics, permission to continue lurking on the shiny new thread please? :D

Permission granted. Nice to meet you though!

NIMs probably even more inclined to leave than me Poddle, I'm still swayed by the nice friends we've made there.

  • Morning all,

Payday and sig has been updated. Am pleased to announce that I am under 14k now (by £2!!!). Have also set up a baby fund. I think if we save £5000 by the end of Feb/beginning March we will be very well set up for me to have a lovely maternity leave with the baby :)

Dinah - the church does sound a bit off. Hope NIM can get stuff sorted out for you both. I know your faith is very important to you both :)

No, I agree with this! I had a woman from the Council come every year to look over my work and see how I was progressing and to make sure my Mum was teaching me at the right level. I don't have a problem with this, and if parents are educating their kids properly it's just 1 day taken up by showing a person your kids work. But I can see why other parents would as a lot of kids I met at Home-ed groups were 'learning by doing' more than having set lessons - one girl I was friends with lived in a commune and rode horses all day, read great books but had no concept of time because of her hippy parents believed it was restrictive. Which sounds like a pretty lovely way to live but the girl was almost feral!

Loving this Freebie of the day stuff Dinah!!

ETA: Well done for getting under 14k CMD!! Must be a great feeling.

Thankyou, would miss my fix of DOTD and as my OH is showing no inclination to get down on one knee it is my secret guilty pleasure!
