2 month old mobile not working properly

Hi, I've not used a forum before so apologise if i get anything wrong.
I have been with vodaphone 5+ years. on 31st aug i upgraded my phone and signed up for a 2 year deal. (pay DDR). I never had any problems with limited service on my previous phone, now with this phone i cannot use it at home as it says limited service, sometimes i can't make calls (doesn't matter where i am!) it will say emergency calls only and for the last 2 weeks it turns it self off when it feels like it. I have complained asking for an alternative phone/replacement, saying it isn't fit for its purpose and vodaphone say all they can do is send me an envelope to send it back and they will test it and see if they think there is anything wrong with it. They won't give me a phone to use in the meantime, i have a sick child and i must have a phone. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas if there's anything i can do?? I've signed for a 2 year deal and now can hardly use the phone. Its a samsung GT5600 is the model.
Thanks for reading.

A couple of things.
1. What about your pre-August phone? You should always hang on to an old phone for emergencies and, it would appear from you post, that one worked fine.
2. If it has gone, get a cheap or spare old phone if you definitely need one given you have a sick child.
You are most unlikely to get a spare phone from the network to cover yours being checked out.0 -
All the operator has to do is do repairs under warranty, your contract is for your phone signal, not the phone. As above if you need to have access i would advise keeping a spare phone + sim, even if its just a £10 phone with a PAYG Sim with £1 on it.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
