Orange Best Plan/upgrade help

Hey there was just looking for some advice. I recieved a text from orange last week from Orange Best Plan reviewing my account.
I am currently 12 months in to an 18 month contract. When I logged in it took me to my Best Plan Review but I seen on the side that there was also the option to upgrade your phone. I looked at this and it was offering a 12, 18 and 24 month contract. When I choose one of the 12 month contracts it then states
You've chosen to change your plan from dolphin - Dolphin 35 (£35/month) to
Dolphin 30 Websave (£27/month, 12 month contract)
Your new contract end date will be 27 Oct 2010
It then allows me to choose a new phone. Is this end of contract date correct? Or once I add a phone will another 12 months be added to my existing end date?
It was always my understanding that if you added and upgrade this was extend your contract.
I am currently paying £40-45 for my contract and Blackberry add on and have six months left but if this is correct I could change my tariff to £27 on a 12 month contract and get a nice new handset?
Any advice is appreciated
