Still waiting to hear back from HSBC after I applied during the Easter weekend offer. Got an email saying I'd hear from them in 5 days, never heard anything more. I'd apply again this weekend if I thought there was a chance of ever getting the £20. :(

I applied last bank hols, got the email and heard nothing more.
Phoned them up after three weeks, got the run around, but finally spoke to someone who helped. They had opened account next day and said they sent two sets of letters - neither arrived. A third letter arrived next day so phoned them up to activate account and make first deposit.
According to the T&C's on the last offer, account had to be running by 31st May with initial deposit to get the £20.

For this one it's 30th June.

    Hi,
I too applied to the last offer (Easter weekend) Opened Current account, Online saver and credit card so was looking forward to £60. They opened Bonus account (9.95 charge per month) instead of normal current A/c Telephoned and was directed to the local branch who immediately corrected it. No sign as yet of the online saver. Rang Tuesday, told to go to branch. Branch can't help. Sent email through 'my messges' with promise of reply within 48 hours. No reply. Rang internet banking services this morning. They asked whether I had received my letter but told them no. Return call promised, but as yet, still waiting (19.48) They are open until 10.00pm so who knows. Needless to say I'm not impressed. If you apply for the savings account, make sure you remember which credit card number you quote on the on line application. I couldn't understand why they wanted this info so I quoted one of my stooze cards which I never use for anything else. Several weeks later I finally managed to get to the point where I was authenticating my new account & was asked, as a security question, for the last 4 digits of the credit card I entered in the application. Needless to say, I hadn't a clue!

Overall not worth the hassle given the restrictions applying to the account.

I got fed up of waiting for my savings account set up at Easter to be done, so I phoned up and they couldn't have been more helpful. Because I have a credit card with them they were able to open it over the phone, tell me the account number and sort code there and then. I'm now waiting for the £20.

The cashback on this w/e's offer is payable by 30th July.

It took them about 3-4 weeks to open the account. They finally sent a letter asking you to call an 0800 number. You then confirm your details and they can take payment (£500 debit/credit card - not sure how CC deposit works as a 'purchase' or 'cash' transaction - does anyone have any experiences to report on that?). Your account is then opened and viewable online.

Given it was a new account and they were getting used to it last time it is likely that the process has become a bit more streamlined since then - so I would not be TOOOOO discouraged!

I asked when I called to activate my account; if you make your deposit from a credit card, it will be treated as a cash transaction.

  • Thanks for this - I have a current account with HSBC but due to their dire rates I only have 36p in it! Just read this post now and went to set up the account in time to get £20 bonus. They expected me to transfer the money from my HSBC current account though but as I have an authorised overdraft in place if they do take the money out soon it should only cost me about £1 in fees. By the sounds of it they probably won't set the account up before the money is transferred into it from my non-HSBC current account anyway :D
