Hi
I am due to visit my son in Fallingbostel, Germany mid November and I wondered if you lovely people could answer a few questions for me??? I will be taking along my 12 year old daughter too.
1) Is there much to around and about the area, my son will be working so I will have use of his car during the day but am not overly confident at driving abroad.
2) I believe we are staying in a hired 'pads' house, what should we expect? Also should we bring things like sheets and towels etc... son has not been overly helpful in answering these questions!
3) What is there to do in the camp that I can entertain a 12 year old with (we will be staying for a week)?
4) Are there any rules that I need to be mindful of, as I don't want to show my son up in any way. I was brought up in the army but left forces accom when I was 8 so long forgotten!
Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.

You might find the following links useful for gleaning information about the local area. The Hive (first link) will be able to provide you with lots of info (including bits on the 'pads' quarter and do's and dont's whilst on the Garrison if you drop them an e-mail).

The leisure pool at Celle is amazing and very cheap (not like leisure pools here in the UK!).
The Serengeti Park is not far - it's not very cheap, but is a whole day out with a safari park and Thorpe Park type rides. We were there last May, though, not sure what winter opening times would be.
I'd be sure to take books and things to entertain yourselves, I didn't find there was a lot to do on camp when we were there. There are SCE primary and senior schools, you might like to visit with your daughter to share experiences with the school kids/join in? Contact the schools first, if you think you might like to do this. If your son has (or can borrow) sat nav it'll be easier for you to get about.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
Make sure that your son has registered you as an official visitor otherwise you won't be able to do anything on camp. Without a temporary id you can't even buy a newspaper or a cup of coffee. (I can't remember the name of the form he ought to complete as I left BFG three years ago.)
You should also have a European Health Insurance Card each - visitors are not entitled to use military medical facilities.0 -
I know our welfare house here has sheets, bedding, towels etc etc provided. Can't help any more than that though. Agree that HIVE are your best bet to get accurate info. Enjoy your stay0

Bergen-Belsen concentration camp site is very educational and moving (just round the corner of Hohne Camp).
They have just built a new visitor centre and it is well worth a visit.0 -

And thank you everyone for your links and comments, I will also check out the dates for the safari park too as my daughter will love the rides if it is open.
Thanks again everyone.... now time to get onto #1 son about the permits!!
I am really looking forward to the trip, will bring back childhood memories of living in Germany when I was young!0 -

There isn't a lot to do in Falli.
Celle is not far away which is quite a pretty town for a walk around. Also, going at this time of the year, if you get a chance go to the Xmas markets.

Hi there, I live in Fallingbostel & if you don't want to drive far I would suggest...
* the local town is nice for a look around & a cake & coffee
* yours sons regiment will have a families office with a cafe in so you could pop in there
* the Linc is in St Barbara Bks & has the Hive in so you can pick up loads of local info there
* Walsrode is a nice place for a look around & really close by
* there also might be some chritmas markets started locally by mid november so that would be worth your son checking out
Just dont forget your passes so you can get in & out of camp freely
Hope you have a nice time xxx0
