Reliable broadband, doesn't need to be cheapest or have features.

I'm about to move house and I need to sort a reliable broadband connection and also sort the phone line.
I'm happy to pay for the pleasure of a reliable service. I'm not bothered about complexity of arrangements either. eg: It doesn't bother me to have seperate rental, bb and override numbers etc.
Which companies are worthy of a mention?

For reliability, I would suggest Zen Internet. I've been with them for approx 2 years now with not a single moments problems.
Check them out on ADSLGuide. They are about the top rated ISP on the comparison page. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

OK, I'll take a look.
I've just sorted BT line rental with Primus as a call provider, so just need to sort broadband.Happy chappy0 -
I got with discountadsl a few weeks go and just upgraded to max fine.
There's lots of good offers arround at the moment, just decide whether you want capped or uncapped, traffic shaping, 3 mth / 12mth contracts etc.Tight fisted accountant since birth.0 -

Well, I don't download music or anything. I just go on MSE, Ebay and do a lot of matched lay betting so want a good fast and reliable connection so I don't get stuffed by losing connection whilst matching up bets. I'm also going to start Casino bagging soon, so need a good fast, reliable connection.
I doubt I'm going to exceed any download limit.
What does traffic shaping mean?Happy chappy0 -
There are lots of ISP's that have offered unlimited packages in the past or have oversold their capacity to the point whereby there's more customer traffic than they can afford to deliver so they 'traffic shape' it means that if you're running any sort of file sharing, P2P, FTP downloads you'll get much slower speeds than your broadband connection can deliver.
If you're doing web browsing and email then traffic shaping shouldn't be an issue.Tight fisted accountant since birth.0 -
Yes, any mainstream package will do I reckon. I'm just going for the middle ground and I don't mind paying £5-£10 extra per month to get reliability and speed.Happy chappy0

You want good ping rates. Might be worth asking who has good ping rates at peak times here:-

Of all the ISP companies moaned about on these threads, I have never heard one bad word about ZEN Internet. If you can afford them go for it ! I wish I could, but could not justify the cost. Another one with good vibes is Nildram. I have just signed up to a cheaper BB service with Primus - 1Mb speed, no download limit.tomstickland wrote:Yes, any mainstream package will do I reckon. Thanks for the info, I need to get on with sorting this now. I've spent the last 2 weeks decorating the flat and it's going to be ready to move into soon.
OK, Zen do a 8MB/s service for £24.99 per month and a 256KB/s service for £17.99.
I need to be going for 8MB/s I guess? It is pretty expensive.
Then again, I'm not going to have a TV so broadband will be important to me.
I need to go and look at another option now.
Primus? I've already moved my calls over to them.Happy chappy0
