Verified by bloody visa BS

This makes my blood boil.

Banks introduce this security measure stating that "it virtually guarantees that the actual cardholder is making the purchase" and yet they decline transactions all the time.

And with Lloyds or Abbey getting through to the fraud department to get the card unblocked can take anywhere up to an hour. And its my bloody money I want to spend.

I am beginning to despise the UK banking system. Full of ripoffs and bureaucracy the whole lot of em.

I found the opposite problem! Banks have VERIFIED BY VISA but many internet transactions are processed without it! It is up to the merchant (I think) if he wants to use VERIFIED BY VISA and he can choose not to even if the card is registered with VERIFIED BY VISA>

In my case that meant a fraudulent merchant processed my card details (just the card number, expiry date, CVV number) and used a false name and false address and no VERIFIED BY VISA.

I had to convince the payment processor (moneybookers.com) that the website was fake!! And that was not easy!
  • Because of the account I have I actually can't yet register for VBV or Securecode and instead have to enter all my personal details like Mother's Maiden name and date of birth on every purchase. If it keeps things secure I'm not all too bothered about it.

Use Verified by Visa and what ever the other one for Mastercard is called and have had no problems ..... if I remember to put the correct password in (they are different). My dad registered, immediately forgot the password and was unable to buy the thing he registered to buy but that's another story.

I have had problems recently trying to buy a car. The transaction wouldn't go through on my debit card (rejected) and when the garage rang up they said it was being declined by my bank. I rang the bank and they had no transaction come through but we got to stalemate. In the end I drove to the bank, took the cash out over the counter and then took it back to the garage but so much for the benefits of chip and pin. It wouldn't even let me spend my own money!

I have also not had any problems. The only time is when I use a card I hardly use and can not remember the password. But it lets you enter a new one if you give card detials, maiden name etc... so its no big problem.

    I keep forgetting my password.

But it's OK, coz you can just get a new one! I managed to change my dad's password by accident, as he insisted he didn't have one, and I didn't need to know anything particularly personal to do so. Luckily I had his permission, but I can see how easy it would be to steal someone's card and change their password without it.

Same for me, I phoned Lloyds who told me it was because I have an Under 19's Current Account I cannot register and instead have to enter my details each time (they sent me a leaflet in the post telling me to sign up for it like).
