I'm confused about that too

Thanks FC i've been keeping a v.close eye on her today with a view to ringing the PDSA for advice but she's started wagging her tail although not as much as usual, but still lots of movement and no apparent discomfort so i've not done anything about it so far!

I was really worried last night about it being more serious but feel so relieved today that it appears to be nothing serious.
She had about 5x more exercise yesterday than usual lol so my mam tried to convince me that part of it may have been overtiredness from a very exciting/tail wagging day for her.

Still keeping an eye on it though, she seems to be a lot more loving today but that could be something to do with the fireworks that have been going off outside!

I think Ruby Moon meant that the user name "He who is not in the know" is quite an apt name considering his comment. I dont think RM meant the comment made was right. If that makes sense
  • what if the pdsa cant help, dogs in pain and you have no insurance and cant afford the vet? let it suffer?

Ahh devil's vixen i get it now!!

That wouldn't happen though would it so lets not talk crap. The PDSA even have an emergency service.
If for whatever reason the PDSA couldn't help, then they would actually reimburse a 'normal' vet to do the treatment, or at least a fair portion of it.

....only if you are in receipt of the right benefits and live in the right postcode, sadly - the PDSA does not cover all areas.
To be eligible for PDSA help, pet owners need to live within the catchment area of a PDSA service and receive either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.

If you live in an area covered by the PDSA you are very lucky.

Sorry, i meant because i am in the right area for the treatment. Just feel like the poster is nitpicking. I AM eligible for PDSA help and my circumstances allow for the treatment if needed.

Not thought about what would happen if i wasn't, but only because i've never needed to and i can't say i'm a regulaer user of their service (only used them for the water infectin she had!)
  • If it wasn't for the PDSA then I don't know what I would do! My German Shepherd who is 7 and sadly suffers from arthritis has to go every 3 months for a check up. Even though it is only a check up, I always make a contribution. A couple of times I have forgot to take money along with me but have always doubled up on next visit. It was only last night I had my cat at the PDSA

What would you suggest, give the dog to someone so obviously empathetic as you? The OP has explained her change in circumstances are entirely beyond her control. Would you prefer she bash the dog over the head with a brick and put it out of it's misery? Rescues are full to overflowing in case you haven't noticed, better a dog remains in a loving home than turned out onto the street.

  • I think I may have a suggestion as to what was wrong with your dog...not in any way suggesting I'm right, but it rang a bell...I forget the technical term for it, but it happened to our lab X...basically he was wagging is tail too hard/much and "knocked it off kilter" as it were...I think (been a few years now) it is just a sprain...want to call it "rudder tail", but not sure if that's right...seems to be well documented among certain gundog breeds. Anyhow, our poor boy was miserable for a few days, but fully recovered. If your dog hasn't recovered after a few days, I'd still call/take her to the PDSA :).
