Not a glitch, they post competitions and everyone who has entered one they have posted, will thank that member.
There is someone with over a million thanks on here who does the competitions!
That's kipper. Also, Lakhsmi7 has close to a million thanks now.
People in freebies and competitions get a lot of thanks because their posts are really appreciated, as are many other posts across the boards.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Gets me how people can rack up such a post count...
Quasar for example:
Posts Total Posts: 74803 (49.28 posts per day)
50 posts EVERYDAY, 365 days a year since Aug 05 :eek::eek:
That's me.
You can clock 50 post in an hour if you play the word games in the Arms.
Also, I don't really care how many posts/thanks people have. Some users leave and come back with another username when they have reached a certain number of posts. Why?
This is the internet, NOT real life. Some of us type fast and make short posts and clock lots of them. Why care?Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Using thanks or post counts to gauge the validity of advice or the worth of a poster is all but pointless. What should I trust more - advice in Techie Stuff from a poster with 500 thanks or 25000? What if 499 of the former's thanks were earned in Techie Stuff, but 24,950 of the latter's were for good solid advice, but on the credit card board?
Thnks are given in the context of the board where they are awarded. This board is for technical advice, so I'd expect thanks to reflect the value of that advice. But the Arms is for entertainment. Thanks there are given for being entertaining or funny and that doesn't seem inappropriate. Thanks and post counts don't really tell us much in forums with such a diverse set of boards and subjects. Perhaps it would be more meaningful if separate post and thanks counts could be maintained and displayed for a user for each separate board, reflecting just the contribution to that board, but I suspect vBulletin might not have that capability. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Well Fifey, you and I have just upped our thanks count by one each, and I've just added a pointless post to my own venerable postcount. This post has taken me 30 seconds to make. No, 34. Damn 36 now..Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Spot on that Fifer
The techie board is for people to help other people with techie problems
If some ar*e comes and posts something to get some 'thanks' out of people it hacks me off as its wasting my time (And everyone elses)
If he/she wants to post on some virtual pub (Whatever the f*** thats all about!! - wheres the beer, crisps, pool table..........) for extra thanks they can do so by all means as everyones doing the same:idea:0 -
I mean Q do you not have a life?:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0

Yep, I knew it was Kipper, but I didn't mention her by name as the OP probably wouldn't have known who I was taking aboutTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

The thing is that MOST users don't post in the Arms/DT just to up their thanks/post count. The regulars in there post because they want to chat about matters that are not necessarily money related.
There is a great spirit on most threads and if occasionally some newbies come in and don't feel welcome, it's generally because they don't give themselves time to get known and settle in.
In any case, I have always maintained and never made a mystery of it, that the thanks count and perhaps even the post count should be removed from the Arms/DT board.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Ive no problem whatsoever with that (Though I still cant get my head around a 'virtual pub')
MY problem is people posting on the techie forum and wasting my time. No more, no less:idea:0
