Possibly..I got the fact that she no longer has anything to do with it direct from her husband's mouth during a seminar.0

Hi, I purchased a Mymag package a few years ago, but couldn't make it work for us. They do claim that you can have a thriving business working 8 - 10 hours a week, forget that, it's more like 10 hours a day, every day. You have to be a consumate sales person, and not be afraid of hearing "Get out and never come again" or "If you ring this number again, I'll report you" many time a day.
Basically you are selling advertising, a thankless task at the best of times, a full colour, quarter page advertisement in my magazine, with free design cost just £19.00, and that went into 5000 magazines and was distributed around the town. Even at that price businesses just didn't want to know. People who are successful at this game, usually had a sales background and/or a very thick skin. A graphic designer and a salesperson would make a great combination for this type of business.
We hope to put our mymag package up for sale in the coming months and hopefully a partnership with just the qualities described above will take it on and make a success of it.

A graphic designer and a salesman with any background in producing a magazine based on advertisements would not touch this franchise with a bargepole...
A 5000 household coverage really is not worth even £19.00.
Now if you came to me and said your coverage was 25000 with at least 48 pages on a monthly basis I might sit up and give it a go.
I have a friend who has done this and has been running for many years.
I am really sorry but the only person who has made a profit from this franchise is the guy who also once at a seminar I attended boasted that he had to find 100K at short notice , so introduced his ' personalised chocolate wrapper' franchise at £500 a time and hit his target within a month.0 -

The above quote illustrates exactly what most people who are in the magazine business are up against. Most graphic designers worth their salt would charge at least £30.00 for designing anything, business card, leaflet etc. In a town of 10000 homes, 5000 delivered and 3000 into shops and supermarkets for customers to pick up and the advertisement designed, all for £19.00 and you reckon that it wasn't worth the money at 0.002p per customer view, have you checked out pay per click prices on Gooogle recently?0 -

so youve printed 8000 copies of an advert
how many of them will actually be read?
how many of them will be read by someone who may be interested in what is being advertised?
how many of those people are interested at that specific time?
how many people locally get a free paper put through their door every week?
how many people already know someone to do the things that are being advertised, or would ask a friend?
even if we use a grossly inflated figures for the first 3 questions:
50% read
10% interested
10% at that time
40 people = 48p per person looking at the advert
still havnt turned any of them into customers though0 -

People can also pick up the local Yellow Pages when they are looking for a business service. Those people are already potential customers and a small entry in Yellow Pages is free and lasts a lot longer than a magazine.
PS I have been in the magazine business

You and Edgex are both right, I have it totally wrong, using Yellow Pages is the way to go for businesses in the future.0 -
