Flight prices to HK keep changing!! Help please!

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice. A good friend of mine is getting married in Thailand in April next year and me and a friend are flying out to Hing Kong for his stag do the week before. I have been looking at prices and about two days ago there were flights for £373. I've looked again and they ar enow £410-420 each. I know it's not a massive increase but between both of us, almost £100 extra.

My question is do we buy these now as the price will definitrely keep going up. Or will the price drop again next week or the week after?

Would appreciate any advice anyone has.

Thanks

When in April are you going? If it's after the 15th, I'd say wait.

If it's before.....that's a different story, as dont' forget Easter is early April next year, therefore flights will be affected by the Easter dates.

    Wait why?

Airlines sell fares on a class by class basis. When the cheapest class sells then the price increases as it moves to the next class.

Whilst airline fares falling is not un known of, in the vast majority of cases airlines fares rise higher the closer to the date you get. And since it is a stag do wherby the date is set, to suggest to wait is lame in my opinion.

Glad you think my advice is lame....at the end of the day it's only an opinion, and the poster will choose to do whatever they like!

But in case this information helps: The cheapest time of the year to fly in the direction of Asia/Australia/NZ is the 15th April - 30th June. For the last two years, this has led to sub £500 flights for Australia, therefore if it is within this period, paying over £400 for Hong Kong alone would seem high. Based on this, I would say wait - or look at combining with an accommodation package to see if you can get a better price.

    But that's just my thoughts.....

Are you remembering that APD will be increased from Nov i think?

Maybe that is why the flight looks a bit dearer than usual.
  • Thanks for your comments. The dates will definitely be leaving 25th March as the stag is the HK Sevens  and coming back 16/17th April. I'm just gutted to have left it for 2 days and suddenly it costs another £40 for a worse route!

Erm........ flight prices change day by day. The later you leave it, the more it costs. Now, you main factor maybe due to the easter holidays or simply peak time prices.

I suggest you look at each website to find a good deal. Surprisingly, so many deals change. If you fly directly from heathrow, it will be more cheaper.

Good luck. Decent place. If you are clever, you should purchase the thailand ticket in hong kong. Much cheaper. You get a decent 5 star hotel for 1 week including flight tickets for roughly £150-£200. If you don't need the high class hotel and just a cheap hotel, this will only cost you £100-£120.

    Enjoy.

The Rugby Sevens may well be the reason flights are a bit on the high side. Sporting events etc often affect flight prices. If I was in your position I would book now, especially since your dates are fixed.

The advice to buy sooner rather than later is sound. Potentially due to sporting events the availability for LHR-HKG is already looking poor on 25th March 2010.

A number of airlines are already showning no availability in the cheapest economy fare buckets. (However that may be due to the cheapest fare buckets not currently being available due to the distance in the future when your flights are - BUT, given the carriers involved that's unlikely.)

Better looking availability on Air New Zealand, and there appears to be a code-share flight (Air NZ, LH, BMI) meaning you should check all websites to see if one gives a better deal than others.
