    Thanks for your unhelpful comments.

You are more than welcome :D
  • I have not had the 'pleasure', of a Thomson cruise but have been fully versed by others who tell me they are truly unlike any cruising experience out there! And not in a good way, I really believe Thomson should stick to on land package deals and let the established cruise lines do things properly.
I have seen several of thier ships in port, and most of them look like converted car ferries. Save your money and a get a great deal with a real cruise operator, the difference in quality will be vast, and if you shop around the price difference won't be!

Its normal practice on any holiday to have to vacate your room early , the next occupant gets a bit funny if the room isnt clean lol

Tbh the worse week of my life was spent on a cruise , and that was with RCI

I am not sure how the Thomson ships work but it would be usual to receive your cabin number when you book unless you book a 'guarantee' (which would normally be a certain grade or cabin type - where you are guaranteed that or better) I am wondering whether your agent thought that it was better to gamble on a guarantee rather than booking a particular cabin.

We are on a cruise in January (not on Thomson) and when I booked a particular grade I was told which cabin numbers were available for that grade so we could check locations etc and choose.

I personally would not choose a guarantee cabin as it is likely to be the locations where others will not have chosen

"Despite asking for double bedded cabin on Deck 3 or 4 we ended up with twins on a very noisey Deck 2 were little sleep was had by anyone"

the cabins on deck 3 and deck 4 are different categories and prices. I have done a dummy quote and the difference between a deck 4/5 outside is £300 more that a deck 2/3 - the cabins on deck 2 and 3 are the same category as each other. You need to check which category you paid for - if a deck 2/3 unfortunately you cannot complain that you didn't get deck 4

Looking at the deck plans there are very few cabins where beds can be coverted to double (there are only 15 on deck 3) so picking a particular cabin would have been a must...I agree with others that the travel agent has let you down in this aspect

When booking the cabins on the thomson ship it clearly states which deck you are to be on.

The higher decks hold a supplement, the travel agent would of or should of stated which deck you were to be on.

They couldn't of placed you on a lower deck if you had paid for a higher deck, this information should of been on your booking summary and outlined which deck you were on

I wouldnt compare Thomson to the more elite fleets of RCI or NCL etc etc

You are paying for a 4star ship that more likely reflects a 4 star spanish hotel in my opinion with Thomson, but again you get what you pay for

I don't think the complaint re star rating is an unreasonable one. I don't know who rated it four star, but it isn't imho. I think of four star ships being the more modern ones such as NCL, etc; 5 star being the high end offering and 3 star being the good offerings on the older ships - kind of in line with Douglas Ward's cruise ship book on the subject. Anyone being sold this ship as a 4 star cruise (not a 4 star hotel) is going to be disappointed. The ship is 27 years old and just doesn't stand up to comparison to modern cruise liners and innovations in cruising which are deservedly rated 4 star and above.

In terms of the other issues, not sure about the drinks, you get what cabin you pay for and everyone has to leave early on cruise as unlike in hotels, they tend to have to turn every cabin round.

    Thanks for your comments Caz.
Our tickets indicated Deck 2/3. We asked for Deck 3 double. Again we were never asked by First Choice if we wished to confirm/reserve/book a cabin. When we collected the tickets 2 weeks before departure there was still no cabin number identifed and we asked travel agent yet again which deck of which they couldnt tell us which I thought was most odd. Surely that close to the actual holiday they would know by now? Travel agent also said that if we did get a twinned room we could make beds into a double which is not true at all! It was noticeable on departure when we booked a cabin for the day that we got one on Deck 3 which was vast difference to Deck 2 indeed!

Glad I'm not using your agency. Thomson Destiny is barely a 3* to those who have cruised before.

Well travel agents only go by the tour operators ratings, our agency rarely gets involved within the cruise industry to be honest

I wouldnt pay the prices for thomsons ships anyhow, I do think they are very over priced!!

No need to be rude mate
