Thomson Destiny Cruise just awful!

Just back from 7day West Med cruise and gotta post up right away just incase anyone is thinking about booking with these guys!! Holiday was sold to us as a 4star ship which it never was in a million years. Despite asking for double bedded cabin on Deck 3 or 4 we ended up with twins on a very noisey Deck 2 were little sleep was had by anyone. Drinks were almost certainly diluted including alcoholic cocktails. Drank seven each (I know sounds alot but we were on holiday) but we weren't drunk!!?? Sharing a bottle of wine with my husband over our evening meal left me more intoxicated than seven cocktails!! Cabins as expected, were small but very cold. Towels were almost threadbare. On disembarkation, even though our flights were late departure you had to vacate your cabin early and if your wanted a cabin for the rest of the day you had to pay a further £30. We had no choice as our departure was much later that day. We couldn't understand why we couldn't stay in the same cabin until mid-day at least given that our flights were booked with them but I guess it is an ideal opportunity for Thomsons to generate abit more revenue at customers expense. So be warned future cruisers!!

You would of been given the cabin that you paid for, they wouldnt upgrade you based on just a request
The thomsons cruises are a bit less informal and not like what you would get with one of the bigger liners, which sometimes does reflect the cost of themI am a Travel Agent
My company’s ABTA numbers are P6046. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.0 -
There are enough old people on the roads to do my head in on a daily basis. Why would anyone even consider floating about for a few weeks with the moaning coffin dodgers???0

Holiday was booked back in January at considerably more cost than what other passengers paid who booked at the last minute. We were not told by First Choice that you had to book a cabin therefore by expressing our wishes to them we thought was sufficient. this is the first time we have used a travel agent as I normally use Expedia etc myself. Foolishly we thought seeing someone face to face and listening to their recommendations would secure us a luxury 4* holiday like the travel agent said but it couldn't be further from the truth. We are considering legal action as Sales of Goods Act 1979 states that you must sold the goods as described and we most certainly weren't. should stick with Celebrity and P&O as they were far superior!
Quite often people booking a last minute deal pay less than those who booked well in advance. Its just one of those things, the travel agents realise that some people are willing to pay a little more to guarantee a place at a specific hotel/cruise ship. Its about deciding yourself whether you are willing to pay that little bit extra or hold off and book nearer the time, being aware that that specific holiday may sell out.
What part of the cruise didn't meet the description of what you were sold? Thread bare towels and watered down drinks are subjective, its going to be practically impossible for you to get a refund on that basis. The same applies to the star rating, if it is a 4* liner it is a 4* liner. Just because in your opinion it is not won't make any impact. You know the star rating is based on the facilities available and has very little to do with the quality of them right?0 -

Well I was onboard the Thomson Destiny in July for my 40th and I loved it. We were on Deck 3. We were in an outside cabin which has its twin beds in an L shape. Inside cabins have twin beds side by side which can be made into a double. Double beds are limited to suites I believe. I'm not sure why it was so noisy as the engines on the Destiny are at the rear of the ship where there are no guest cabins.
I had no problems with the towels which were changed everyday, sculptured at night. The food was devine, the cocktails wonderful. We also booked in January and paid full price, bought the drinks package and felt we got great value for money.
Paying for a late checkout is standard, bed and breakfast, hotel or ship.
We saw some incredible ships when we were in port and realise that you pay a premium for them.
The Thomson Destiny isn't a new ship, neither is it a particularly old ship, the service and entertainment on board were wonderful. Its a wonderful introduction to crusing, can be as formal or informal as you want it to be. This was my first cruise, it won't be my last. I loved it.
I do agree First Choice let you down, we booked through our local independant travel agent, who on booking let us choose our cabin, choose from either an early or late sitting for dinner and organised our drinks package.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
I have been on the Destiny. Its more than ok. Its the Walmart of Cruise ships... Thats what you paid for. I have also been on The Oceana ( p & O ) and Brilliance of the Seas ( RCI ) Both of which cost considerably more than The Destiny. The destiny is certainly comparable with a 4* hotel.....What is there to complain about ? you can book whatever cabin you want but expect to pay for it.......0

We have done a couple of Thomson cruises, the last one being on the Destiny last year. We got a very good deal and they are certainly value for money. The ships are a bit long in the tooth and showing signs of wear. But food and service is excellent.
The ship was in a way an odd mix of people, certainly not all coffin-dodgers as one extremely ill-informed poster stated. There were plenty of middle-aged and retired people, but also lots of families and 30-somethings too.
Thomson are certainly not upmarket in the cruise world. But the experienced cruisers never seem to encounter the more boisterous element on board. The younger lot seem to spend meal times in the self-service Lido restaurant, and then retire to the Oklahoma lounge to drink the ship dry on their all-inclusive cards. They are certainly not up for Captain's Dinner in a tuxedo.0 -
