  • If a member of my daughter's nursery staff were conducting themselves in this way would make me think twice about sending her there.

I can remember once at college a few years ago, I was sat in the computer lab doing some work when I heard someone saying that they hated their job and wanted to smack their managers face and lots of obscenities. I looked and it was one of my DD's nursery nurses, I reported it to the manager and said I did not want her looking after my child.

    What, seriously?

A nursery nurse saying that they don't like their job and are looking for a new one; and stating on facebook that they are fed up and they want out - that's normal everyday chit chat....what the heck has that got to do with her work?

On my FB, I am friends with some of my DD's nursery nurses and if they were complaining about their jobs I would seriously worry about the working conditions of the nursery and whether they are not taking their work seriously.

Quite a lot actually if they take that attitude to work with them. I want someone keen and enthusiastic looking after my children so they enjoy their day and get the most out of it. I don't pay a fortune to have Kevin the Teenager looking after them.

I'm thinking that if I were employing people who posted on the internet that they are unhappy working for me id get nervous pretty fast about how quick they might send the message out that I was a crap employer to work for and therefore affect my business at being able to recruit other staff.

There comments could bring the reputation of my company into disrepute - there are whistleblowing laws to protect people who have legitimate claims of wrongdoing but this is just a case of someone venting steam - in an inappropiate way it seems, about their employer.

Im also eager to know if she posted these messages at work time, it muddies the defence that the upset was about something other than work.

I agree, especially as this is a 'senior' nursery nurse which id imagine has some type of leadership responsibilities - how can you lead other members of staff with enthusiasm if you have low morale about your job and employer - and worse undermining them by complaining.

someone, somewhere actually wants to be in her job (maybe they will after all this).

Wow - people are allowed to not enjoy their jobs! There could be all sorts of reasons for not enjoying it - I'd say they WERE taking it seriously by looking for something different and being honest about it.

Perhaps they have a crap employer - perhaps their car isn't working and taking the bus is too much...again - the comments were that they were 'fed up' and 'x wants out' - hardly a rant about work is it?

...but working with children is not just a job, it is a job with responsibilty. Parents are paying nursery staff to look after their children.

It is okay not to enjoy your job, but the minute you start broadcasting it over the internet and to collegues takes it to another level.

The nursery staff need to be enthusiastic and if they are not enjoying their work the children will pick it up and it could have a psychological impact on the child.
