That's exactly what Abbey did to me despite specific instructions to allow the transaction. Fortunately I immediately did it with a cheque in the post and got in under the wire.

I realise it was absolutely disgraceful of me to expect free access to manage MY money. I've let Abbey know what I think about it.

I applied for this account yesterday and have been told to expect a confirmation form to complete. The money is still in my (old) account and certainly hope it won't take too long before I know. There is currently a 5 minute plus waiting time on their phone calls.

it was unforeseen and therefore how could you have anticipated at the time of applying that the card would be rejected.

'Cos if LTSB staff had known there was a £30K limit for online debit card transactions instead of saying any amount was OK (which is what they also told me) -ecosse48 could have adjusted his payment accordingly.
........Try seeking compenstaion from LTSB ??

Oh no, can't believe it has finished.

I am just waiting for funds to be transferred into my account from a bond that matured last Sunday and was then going to get online immediately and apply.

Now will have to start searching for something comparable:mad: Does anybody know if there is anything around that is as good, or at least nearly as good?

    Thanks.

this product is no longer available

3 and 5 year rates now on offer:-

    http://www.nsandi.com/products/ggb/rates.jsp

    http://www.nsandi.com/products/gib/rates.jsp

It was a market leader and bound to disappear after a short time. All the leading financial guru's expect interest rates to remain at 0.5% until around this time next year at least. Me personally, I would not fix beyond 12 months, there's always something going to be around the corner in a years time. The NS&I have played a blinder with that rate

I don't want to fix for more than twelve months because I am hoping that rates will start to move up, which surely has to happen one day. Perhaps it is worth looking at instant access accounts (some are paying over 3%) and then maybe a better fixed rate will come along out of the blue.
