Ntl?

Am moving shortly into our new property which seems to have both a BT and an NTL connection (neither live at present) - trying to decide what to do re. phone/broadband/TV services.
At the moment NTL looks most attractive and remarkably cheapest (for the combination of phone/broadband/digi TV we need) - but I have a couple of questions. We had NTL in our previous property and the service wasn't that reliable - the connection would drop (not often but always at a critical moment!) and customer service was not great. Have they improved any in the past 2 years?? Second question - we need wireless broadband - and all I can find on their website is a company that will set up wireless package for NTL for £99. I already have a wireless router (Voyager 2100) - would this work with NTL or only with a BT line? I'm guessing not.
If we don't go with NTL we'll have to get the BT line activated. If I transfer our BT service from our current property does that count as continuous for contract purposes? We're out of contract with BT and def. need to change when we move - but it would be good to migrate our current number first etc. Presumably once we'd done that we could switch providers - we wouldn't be tied into another 12 months as it is a new property?
Any suggestions very welcome. Thanks!

The wireless part is a function of your router, not the ISP.
I'm in a similar position - I've just bought and I need to choose a phone and broadband supplier. I'm not too keen on TalkTalk after reading some of the horror stories. I'm happy to pauy £15 extra per month for a reliable service.Happy chappy0 -
Thanks - I understand the wireless is a function of the router - but I think NTL being cable needs a different type of router - DSL not ADSL? At least that is as much as I have found out so far!
I'm with you on the reliability - I was going to go with Talk Talk but not after discovering it might take to the end of September to connect and then be awful!
BT have been very reliable but really expensive - we are averaging £75 a month at the moment including calls and bb. I would like a package with no surprises (fixed cost) - NTL including all UK landline calls, 1Mb unlimited BB and digi TV will be £45. Seems reasonable to me if they have got their act together on reliability. Can anyone on NTL at the moment comment on their reliability?0 -
Yes to the router, if you are going with NTL you will need one that is suitable for cable bb.
If you stay with BT for your line rental this opens many more doors for a bb package and using a CPS for your phone calls which I know would work out very much cheaper than £75 per month.
Have a read of Martin's article here first which links to phone and bb packages or just phone providers.

Thanks Edinburghlass. Thing is we don't (yet) have BT at the new house. There is a telephone point - my concern is that if we get it connected we'll be tied into another 12 month contract - unless they can tranfer the package from the current house - not sure if they will just connect the line?
I agree - am absolutely sure we can do better than the £75 a month! I only realised it was this much when I started looking at what to do in the new place. But can't change it for the current place as we are moving in a few weeks.
So I am not looking to improve on £75 but on £45 (the NTL package) - have read Martin's articles but am put off Talk Talk by all the reports of unreliability on here - plus we can't wait 3 months for a connection - we need BB for our work. There are other broadband/telephone packages that would come in cheaper than £45 but when you factor in the TV - Freeview/Topup don't have the channels we want - Sky would be the only other possibility for that - and their minimum charge is £15. So are there any all inclusive calls, unlimited broadband packages for less than £30? I haven't seen any yet but still looking!
