Oops, just discovered that my post has been merged with this thread - took a bit of time to cotton on!

Like Dixie Dean, I have to confess I feel a bit stupid, but I don't know if my shower is electric. I'd really like to get an ecocamel, based on reviews on here, but how do I tell if it's suitable? We just have a mira shower of some sort. Is an electric one where you push the on button and there are LEDs? Ours we just twist the knob. Sorry if I sound really thick!
  • Nearly all of electric showers have a lunch box size box attached to the wall with a button on the front to turn the water on.
Nearly all others (the ones ecocamel sell towards) have a couple of dials hanging out of the wall.

Ecocamel do work on electric showers but the savings are very small.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

Thanks for the clarification Andy! By the sounds of it ours isn't electric, so I too will be going for the ecocamel. Thanks for all the feedback on here.

We are just going to get a Mira one for our new Mira shower and this thread has been most enlightening. Our flow rate is currently 15ltrs/min, so hoping to halve our use and I am going to try the Aussie method as well - simples!

Just to clarify for folk who maybe getting confused......

An electric shower is one which electrically heats the water as it passes through the unit. Generally they have a box on the wall that is plumbed into the water system and the electricity heats the water as it passes through the shower. These aerated heads generally do not work on these type of showers as their flow rates are much lower anyway, as the water is having to be heated as it goes.

You can however, also have an electric power shower (we have) wich also has a box on the wall. However, they take hot water from the hot water tank/boiler and the flow rate is boosted by a small pump in wall mounted unit. These will work with the aerated shower heads, although if you are in doubt, e-mail the manufacturer of the unit for advice.

Hope that hasn't clouded the issue more!!;):rotfl:

I have bought and installed one andd so far so good. Not sure if we are saving loads but we definitley have a powerful shower so reckon we should be. Only issue is that as the same time as replacing the head, i replaced the hose (as old one a bit kinky, ooh er). Either the hose or the head is too narrow for the old fitting and so it doesn't really sit well. Is there an easy way to overcome this or do I have to buy a new...er...fastener thingy bit? Any ideas?

    Cheers

I think I know what you mean! Really getting a proper fitting is the best solution, but in the spirit of frugality....

How loose is the shower head in its clip? Is the clip adjustable? If its not too loose, you maybe able to bodge-wrap some suitably coloured insulating tape around it to make it thick enough to sit properly, but dry it thoroughly before applying tape.

We have had our new head fitted for two days now and its great! The pump is on a lower setting and the shower is as good as ever, so a big thumbs up!:j

how do these heads effect the feel of pressure?
Iv got hair that normally requires 20 mins to de-soap in the needle point setting.
Would an Airated head take longer?
