I'd recommend Jet Blue for cheap flights...one of the cheapest airlines I've ever had the pleasure of using, and also one of the best! I used to love Southwest because they were so cheap, but Jet Blue out did them on my last trip
.
And I'll second the others who are saying Las Vegas is worth visiting...you don't need to be there for more than a few days, but it is worth a visit. I went a few years ago to go to a music concert and meet up with some US friends, but actually quite enjoyed the place0 -
I can't see there would be an issue with missing flights and losing hotel bookings...if you're booked to fly from city A to city B on a particular day, you know where you stand and you get to the airport for that flight. It will be an involved itinerary to be sure, but it doesn't sound like there's going to be any in and out of a city in one day (or even on consecutive days) which would potentially have a lot of risk.
I agree that getting some guidebooks is a good idea. You can find loads of info online of course, but for me there's something about looking at a guidebook that makes things click a bit more.
Once you do start to look at flights and hotels keep good notes. Nothing worse than thinking you have it all worked out and then realising you're missing one link of the chain and having to start again (been there, done that).Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I think i will be back soon to run my plans by all of you so be ready for loads and loads of questions
and thanks loads for all of you help so far!!!!:j0 -
I also have 3 weekends in minneapolis that I can maybe do stuff with
Naz - I do understand that you are keen to see as much as possible. For the weekends, you could have a look at www.megabus.com (choose the American version). They run buses from Minneapolis to Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee. A random November date from Minneapolis - Chicago came up at $15 (about £10) single. Obviously a cheap flight would be quicker - worth considering though.0 -
thanks Zazie,
Im just thinking when my new job starts up Im going to have very limited time to do travelling as it will be quite intense which is why I want to cram as much of it in as possible.
I think the idea of going for weekend stops is a good one. Obviously I will see a very limited piece of places but at leat i can get a taster!!:j0 -
While in Minnesota, I'd recommend a visit to Lake Superior, Duluth on Lake Superior is very nice. You can travel all the way up the North Shore towards the Canadian boarder. Depends where you are staying, it's around 7 hours (IIRC) from the airport to Duluth, maybe a bit longer. If you like shopping there is the Mall of America which is the 2nd largest mall in the world (I think, unless it is only N.A).
South Dakota is also very nice, but again is around 9 hours drive from MSP. But you could see the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse (Native America version of Mount Rushmore), plus much more.
Florida is superb, but depends what you want to see, as to how long you should go for, I went for 2 1/2 weeks, but could easily have spent longer!!2014 running challenge 587.4 miles / 250 miles0 -
i totally agree with that. Thats why I need to sit down and plan this completely and hope everything works out and I dont forget something when I am there that I have planned:j
