I get free Equifax credit file alerts due to my Capital One credit card and have recently been sent an alert stating that:
I can't recall applying for any credit cards recently - and with all the other credit file entries, its relatively obvious which company brand/parent they are talking about..
Thanks
Sunil

Have you had your card changed recently, due to loss or theft or any reason really? A change in card number, can trigger one of these alerts. Although, Capital One should show as the company.0

No, no new replacement cards recently - and as I say all the other entries on the file such as:
Capital One
MBNA
Egg
Santander
Halifax etc..
are all easy to identity from the 'Company name'
Its just I have never seen such an odd company name before (71291559) and don't what it refers too..

I also cannot work out what company "71291559" is.
Sunil - have you found out more details on this credit alert?
Thanks,

just a thought, is that what the email alert states?? because usually they dont state what it is just that there is a change in the credit file. you then have to log into equifax for the alert information and press the + but and gives more info there, if its in email i would log into equifax if i was you as sounds a bit like it could be a fishing email.
if it is on equifax site it is on there and not just via email, i would get another report (you get 2 free per year anyway, and can buy more if needed) as if you look at the dates it may jog your memory if its something you have took out (ie have you opened any catalogues, current accounts, loans, credit cards etc around then?)
and if not you can contact equifax support for their assistanceMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0
