  • just my opinion, but definitely dont touch hotpoint.

to correct an earlier post, they have never been taken over by indesit. the parent company is merloni, an italian family owned company. indesit, hotpoint, ariston plus a couple of other brands are just brand names. they are all mass produced tat for want of a better phrase. miele, lg, liebherr, and others, all superb. i would also question the quality of samsung. nice designs, but they tend not to age well, and are of poor build quality, lg are a far better brand.

DON'T BUY ONE! In fact don't buy anything by Hotpoint, or by its parent company Indesit.

Sound advice. Please listen to it.

If anyone is still considering buying this model then you must be mad if you've read these posts and those on the unbeatable.co.uk website.

We had ours for 16 months when it blew up and caught fire when the wire in the left hand door wore through after being opened and closed.

Hotpoint customer services are appalling. They deny they have a problem with this model yet they have a special department set up to deal with customers who own this model. The Engineers are told to automatically repair the door wiring if it hasn't already gone when they make a visit to homes with this model.

We lost £131 worth of food and 2 half days waiting in for the engineer and for the replacement. We were without cooling during a heatwave in April for 8 days. Hotpoint say that the offer of £100 is generous!

We accepted a replacement but the door hinge looks exactly the same to me! Still undecided? Visit your psychologist for an assessment! lol

By all accounts the door wiring issue is limited to older versions of this model?

Hotpoint (via their pre-sales help line) told me, without me mentioning the specific wiring issue, that the wiring issue has been addressed and is no longer a problem in current versions of this fridge-freezer.

All other problems (not keeping temp. etc.) all appear to occur once the door wiring has worn through.

We've spent ages looking for a larger fridge-freezer and this one size and design-wise fits the bill perfectly - given Hotpoint are fully aware of the wiring faults then I would only assume that they would rectify the design before they kill someone and end up in court?

Has anyone purchased one of these models very recently who can pass comment on the door wiring? No local stores have them in stock for us to look at.
