There I was all smug at opening 3 Reward accounts last wek and looking forward to collecting free fivers- when yesterday I get a letter saying they've turned me down for a credit card.
I didn't ask for a CC, made it clear to the agent that I didn't want one when it came up on her screen; and don't need 1 - so I just binned the letter. My after thought sometime later - was that maybe this would have some impact on my credit rating ( something I've never even thought about 'til reading threads on here)- or affect any future application for a CC with someone else, and I do wonder why they turned it down. Should I go and read the riot act in the branch or can I just ignore it?

Then you must complain. If you don't, other customers will be sold products that they don't want by the same staff member.I didn't ask for a CC
At the very least your feedback should put the management on guard that there is a potential threat to service and reputation working for them.
Only from the point of view that an additional credit search is showing. My after thought sometime later - was that maybe this would have some impact on my credit rating ( something I've never even thought about 'til reading threads on here)- or affect any future application for a CC with someone else
Too many recent credit searches for all those Reward accounts perhaps?and I do wonder why they turned it down.0 -
So the fact that their credit search came back saying "get lost" - does not in its self have an impact - it's just doing 4 searches in 5 mins?opinions4u wrote: »T

They probably only did one.0

Precisely. The "decline" decision isn't shared. So the fact that their credit search came back saying "get lost" - does not in its self have an impact - it's just doing 4 searches in 5 mins?
Unless the credit card was processed via a guaranteed acceptance (which it patently wasn't) then they will have credit searched each application independently.bingy_burge wrote: »They probably only did one.0 -
About 6 to 12 months ago I was in the market for a new Credit Card. I applied at AMEX and Shell and was turned down flat.
I checked my Credit reports and they were immaculate.
I owe no money, own my House outright, and have respectable savings and did appeal to both but was told no.
I put it down to the fact that I had 6 reward accounts at Halifax/Bank of Scotland (now reduced to 3).
My only credit card is/was Egg Money and I fill that up each month quickly.
I have recently opened 2 new Vantage Accounts at Lloyds TSB for the 4% making my total 3 accounts there, and had given up on applying for Credit Cards.
Then last week I get a letter from Lloyds TSB offering me their Credit Card and if I apply by Nov 6th I am guaranteed a £5,000 limit.
If I take them up on this offer, do they have to "stand on" or could they say we didn’t mean it?0 -

All it means is that the credit limit is guaranteed - if you are accepted for the card. It doesn't mean you will definately get the card though.0 -

Dear Mr. Striker,
We'd like to thank you for banking with us, that's why we guarantee to accept you for a Lloyds TSB Classic Mastercard with a credit limit of at least £5,000. We hope this is useful in helping you make the most of your finances.0 -
I think the OP may be worrying unnecessarily about their credit file.
When I opened my HICA a couple of years ago I was given a credit card (that I did ask for) on the back of just one credit search for the current account. My understanding is that they still operate like this.
If the OP checks their credit file I think they'll find that just the one credit search is listed, and it'll be tagged "search type: current account application".
I agree the [STRIKE]sales assistant's[/STRIKE] banking advisor's actions may be worth bringing to the attention of the company though.0 -
Had a similarly worded offer from First Direct last year for a £10K limit card.Andystriker wrote: »We'd like to thank you for banking with us, that's why we guarantee to accept you for a Lloyds TSB Classic Mastercard with a credit limit of at least £5,000. However, and although they never 'formally' searched my file, when they asked Experian for a CII (consumer indebtedness index) score - an unrecorded enquiry - following my application they subsequently changed their mind!
In short, don't build your hopes up.0 -

thats correct as part of the current account application if the customers granted the bank account they can be offered a credit card on the back of it its guaranteed and theres no credit search required and its a much shorter application.
of course that is the credit scores good enough.
