Hi yet again w.f. - Here are the changes to Bank Rate over the last 4 years, the figure in bold is what you would have expected to get in a Savings account at the time.
    1 Jan 05 to 3 Aug 05 4.75% 5.25%
    4 Aug 05 to 2 Aug 05 4.5% 5%
    3 Aug 05 to 8 Nov 06 4.75% 5.25%
    9 Nov 06 to 10 Jan 07 5% 5.5%
    11 Jan 07 to 9 May 075.25% 5.75%
    10 may 07 to 4 July 07 5.5% 6%
    5 July 07 to 5 Dec 07 5.75% 6.25%
    6 Dec 07 to 6 Feb 08 5.5% 6%
    7 Feb 08 to 9 Apr 08 5.25% 5.75%
    10 Apr to 7 Oct 08 5% 5.5%
    8 Oct 08 to 5 Nov 08 4.5% 5%
    6 Nov 08 to 3 Dec 08 3% 3.5%
    4 Dec 08 to 7 Jan 09 2% 2.75%
    8 Jan 09 to 4 Feb 09 1.5% 2%
    5 Feb 09 to4 Mar 09 1% 1.25%
    5 Mar 09 to present 1/2% 1%
I hope you are stll angry 'cos applying the above to your bills is a lot of work, but the upside is that you are entitled to compensation and the more work you have had to do to establish the figure, the bigger the compensation gets.
Please post how you get on
    All the best

    Hi guys.
    Thnaks for the replies.

Today I was contacted by Npower and was told that they had finally worked the overpayments that I have made.

Since the metric meter was fitted, I have OVERPAID by £1950 !!

This will obviously be returned to me.....but when I mentioned the goodwill they had also said they would offer me.....the offer was £50 !!

Now, I dont want to be a gold digger, but I feel that £50 for 4 years of grief, home visits, threats of court action etc ....not to mention nearly having £2000 of my money for nothing, is worth more than £50. ??
£50, would not have even paid for my phone calls to them over this period !
I refused this offer and the rep told me the complaint will be escalated to level 2, where a different team will look at increasing the offer.

Any thoughts / help on an appropriate figure would be appreciated.

    Thanks again guys.

Hi w.f. - You and I posted at virtually the same moment. £50? It's a joke. But it does show up n'powers attitude, which is " Hey lads - We have a problem here, whats the least you think we can get away with ?"
Please, Please. Do the bill by bill analysis to check the figure they are offering, and make up your mind as to how hard you will pursue them on any difference in your figures and theirs
    Keep us posted

How have they calculated the £1,950? - it would be nice if they have used the current rate. Bear in mind that with npowers unique 'sculpting' you will have paid for a lot of extra tier 1 units.

It might be an idea to contact Direct Debacle on the NPower sculpting thread.

I would think £300 for compensation!

Hi w.f. Cardew kindly pointed this thread out. You have received good advice. To endorse what has been said, you do need to check npowers calculations of how they arrived at a £1950 overpayment to ensure they have calculated correctly. In addition you need to re-calculate your bills as well. Tedious I know, but necessary.

There is a possibility that you have been further overcharged by npower on the 'high rate' units if you are on a two tier tariff. It depends if you are on a two tier tariff and what your annual gas consumption is. It has to be over 4572 per annum. Most, but not all two tier tariffs were subject to this overcharging.

The issue is quite complex and I do not intend to clutter this thread up with it. Just be aware of it and in the first instance concentrate on your current dispute. The two issues are separate and should be kept as such. There is plenty of time and plenty of help available on the sculpting thread should you decide to check whether you were a victim of npowers deceit.

    Good luck.
  • Interested to hear how you got this resolved with N-Power as I have the same issue. I recently switched to OVO after 3 years with N-Power and received the first OVO bill yesterday. It was a massive reduction on the previous bill from N-Power, however it laid out quite clearly how the bill was calculated. I applied this logic to my old N-Power bills and lo and behold they have been charging me as if I had an imperial meter rather than a metric meter. Pulled a quick spreadsheet together and it appears they have over-charged me £2,600 for the time I've been with them.
I've just fired off a complaint to them however would be interested to see how they settled the original posters issue.
