LED light bulbs getting better

I know the factory that lightplanet are sourcing their GU10's from. I was in it about 2 weeks ago and i have some samples from that factory coming for testing.
I have however, found what i think is the best factory making LED spot lights and downlights. I have not been able to test them yet so i cannot confirm if i have seen products that are of suitable quality to recommend or bring to the market. I can say however, that i am very confident that they will be up to our tough testing.
Spots are going to be more expensive unfortunately at the moment, but i think the products you have bought are very expensive. Too much mark up added there IMO
Elstimpo, I don't think that this is the correct venue for us to discuss sources and margins. I appreciate that you are about to launch a web site which may compete with ours. The open market place is where pricing is decided, so if you are more efficient or have a superior product, you will be able to dictate pricing.
On your other point regarding spot light availability, MR11, AR111 and other formats are available.0 -
CFL will not last 20 years. Not even close.
They can, we bought some of the first energy saving bulbs in the early 90s and all but one is still working. They're not lightly used either, I tend to have several lamps lit every evening and have them on for a long time. Quite a few friends of mine who were already in to environmental issues back in the early 90s when the bulbs first came out still have most their original bulbs too. We bought many together to get a bulk discount.
I find the ones used in table lamps last best, possibly because the ballast and circuitry stays fairly cool when the bulb is upright. However, they've all lasted very well.0 -
Due to someone taking offence to my comments on what represents value for money on spot lights in the LED world and not to attract further ignorant accusations. This post has been deleted.0

We have tested all the modern day CFL's extensively in conjunction with the climate group and none of them had a lifespan longer than 5-6 years. Then with all the added issues of CFL's, biggest being Mercury and the least being the light they give off and they time they take to 'warm up'. Substandard lighting solution in every way. Which is why Osram and Phillips are investing huge money in LED's.0 -
Sorry, as i was having a slow day i posted this in the wrong section of the forum. Sorry.
Just a quick note to say my trip to Asia was very productive. I have seen every single LED product now available to the market. I have found one company who are producing truly wonderful common light bulbs. Their 4 watt is a direct replacement for a 40w incandescent. It is the size of a regular incandescent and looks like a more modern version. Absolutely the best product i have ever seen. This is the only company in the world who are making this quality. In fact they are so good, Cree themselves want them to create bulbs with their brand on. I will be bringing these bulbs to the market over 50% cheaper than the Phillips equivalent (which is far larger in size and not in the same league in terms of quality). These LED bulbs will be £14.99 each and come in screw in and bayonet fitting. The UK being the only market needing bayonet and being specially made for me.
Not only that, but the factory these bulbs come from is top of the line with all the equipment needed to produce and test quality products. They come from Taiwan.
All the factories i visited in China were not up to anything. I saw the factory where the current biggest distributor of LED's in the country source their products. The factory was terrible and the treatment of the workers was horrific. The people working there are working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for a month before they get 2 days off. They are living 6-12 to a room with no windows and 1 toilet and 2 showers to 100 workers. It was truly shocking and we walked out.
The other factories in China were not as bad, but still not good. Their products are poor and their claimed testing and stats are based on guess work as they are not prepared to invest in the expensive equipment needed to test. From a product and ethical point of view, i saw one factory in China i would work with.
I am so exciting with the products i found in Taiwan that when they website is launched they products will be offered on a solid money back guarantee. You buy the product and get it home, don't think its good enough, we'll refund you. I will stand behind my products, no other LED seller will do this because they know their products are not good enough.
Oh and this same factory showed me the first, proper dimmable LED. It's very very good, but they have only just finished it so if you wanted to buy one today it would cost $90 US per bulb. So we shall wait for that one.
Thanks
Did you ever launch your website?0 -
With the emergence of compact fluorescent and LEDs, I think the end of incandescent bulbs is near. Once a few tweaks are made to energy efficient bulbs so that they operate like incandescent bulbs, but with energy savings, I think the complete switch will be made. There may be new lighting besides LEDs and CFL that may be even better coming out with the way technology advances today.0

I cant work out what they are doing with these led lights ..
the ones that replace gu10 and the other 12 volt pronged ones are abysmal ..
I picked up 11 of these about a couple of weeks ago for £1 at a car boot
looked at them, thought wow ! 46 LEDs got to be good ........nope p*ss poor...just about good enough for lighting display cabinets..ones shown in the first pick are the 12 volt ones ..not the gu's
by contrast .this cheap 21 led torch bought for £1
looks like this inside
and shines like a car head light
garage ..40 feet away..
trouble is, I want to buy another twenty of the torches to do some converting .and cant find them any more .the guys not been there on the market stall
they are probably on ebay .but not at a quid each !

LED Lighting contains no mercury, so will not harm our environment that way! Although they are expensive they can save loads of money on bills and last forever! I have seen a dimmable Philips one here - http://www.lamps2udirect.com/pages/browse-More-Lamps2udirect.php/LED-Light-Bulbs/Philips-Dimmable-Master-LED-Bulbs/317/120

£38.56 (ex.VAT) - £45.31 (Inc.VAT)
if the lights on for 10 hours a day 365 days a year ....will take three years to pay for its self....that's if it doesnt fail in this period
.....................................................................................
LEDS
I would wait around for a while until they really start to take off .then you will be able to get them for less than a fiver (maybe one or two years before this happens).....then of course the greedy twerps will build-in a less than six months life span.
CFL's
i still have one of the original Phillips SL26'S..The one with the glass dome around it .......the one that came out before the compact one .....its still going strong after more than 15 years.
