Buy a bucket and sponge, knock on doors and offer to wash and polish cars, clean windows etc.

Or how about mowing lawns, weeding - put adverts in local newsagents windows, (parish magazines). There are loads of people who want the occasional job done.

If you start thinking about what you could do for yourself, rather than waiting for someone to employ you, I'm sure you'll have a list as long as your arm.
